First, let me say that we had a bargain rate in downtown Savannah. On a whim we decided to stop for the night in Savannah on our return trip from Disney. We saw a $99 coupon in one of the hotel coupon books that we got at the rest area. I have been really pleased with the revamped Comfort Suties we had previously stayd in so we gave it a try.
On first glance the hotel and our room was very nice. We dropped our bags and headed to the historic area for dinner. Note that the hotel is actually several blocks from the historic district in an industrial area across the street from public housing. We would have walked if it was going to be day light when we returned but we knew it would be dark and we didn't feel comfortable walking in that area after dark.
When we got back to the room and settled in we noticed big stains of who-knows-what on both bed spreads. It was gross. I went to the front desk to ask for new bed spreads but housekeeping had gone for the day so the very helpful and friendly desk clerk offered to move us to a new room. We started to move but the spreads in the other room were just as bad. Perhaps the bed spreads (which were tan) had been washed and the stains were set in but they were still gross. We decided to stay put and remove the bed spreads.
The kids wanted to check out the tiny indoor pool but the water was really cloudy. Finally, when we showered, the shower curtain rod was barely hanging on to the wall. The brackets were coming out of broken drywall - someone must have hung on it and pulled it lose. Because it was one of those new curved rods, now hanging losely down, the shower curtain bunched in the middle and would not stay closed. The bathroom floor got all wet.
The free breakfast was just OK. Standard motel fare. The sausage and egg patties were cold - the friendly attendant told us to put it in the microwave.
So, to sum it up, this hotel is definately not up to the standards of the new and improved Comfort Suites that I have stayed in lately. Although it was a bargain with the coupon (be sure to check out those interstate coupon books!) they have some quality issues to resolve. Next time I'll pay a bit more to stay closer to the historic area.
