Part of the thrust of the Hawthorn Suites chain is to cater to the extended-stay traveller, and as such, they offer some great benefits which the short or long-term client can take advantage of. This particular hotel, which is located virtually next to the Savannah airport had hot breakfasts included in the room rate, a barbeque outside, on-site laundry, free internet access in the business room, free long distance phone calls within the country, etc, and all for a reasonable price. The hotel is about 3 years old, and the public areas and suites are kept impeccably clean. The staff were always helpful, gracious, and very polite.
Sounds great doesn't it? It would be, except that there is minimal soundproofing between the rooms, so, we were awakened at 3:45 am two nights in a row by the sound of someone walking around above us and then taking a shower; television sounds carried through the walls, at an equally late hour. We could overhear a 5 am phone conversation - not just muffled sounds, but could make out the words. As well, we were, without wanting to be, privy to an intimate interaction between a couple in the room next to us.
Unfortunately the longer term travellers are assigned the top floor corner suites, which may be quieter. The hotel was also quite full during our stay so the option of moving to a more desirable location in the building was somewhat limited. It may have been our unfortunate luck as to whom our neighbors were at this hotel, but beware, it may be the luck of the draw for you too.
