I was part of a big group that dined at Belford's in September 2007. We were seated right away, which was nice. Our server was very friendly and she tried hard for saying that there were 13 of us. The restauant is housed in an old building, so there is the whiff of historical about it. But it's a place that you can wear casual dress and not feel out of place. Surprisingly, the prices are rather high for the casual feel.
The group ordered appetizers, which I did not sample. Mostly seafood (crab cakes and shrimp) on the platter. The bread was good and I couldn't stop eating it.
Most of the group ordered Southern shrimp, grits and greens. The diners said that they thought it was good, authentic southern. I had beef. It was good, but not spectacular. I don't think it was worth the price, which was comparable to other high-end places. But this was not high-end steak. A colleague and I shared a chocolate toffee cake slice for dessert. That was very tasty.
The wine list was ok, not anything unusual on the list. The service was good for the size of our group. But when another colleague who missed the initial outing wanted to go to Belford's, the others declined to returned. There is definitely better places to go if you want to spend some cash and feel like you got something special in return.
