I have to admit - after seeing the mixed reviews of The Lady & Sons, I was not that excited about eating here, but Paula Deen happens to be my mom's favorite cook, so my sister & I decided to bring her here to Paula's restaurant for her 60th birthday. Thankfully, we were not disappointed! We arrived at 9am to wait in line to put our names on the lunch reservation list. After waiting 1 hour, we made it to the front of the line and got reservations for a 12:30pm lunch. We returned a little later and were seated on the third floor next to a window - it was nice to be able to look out at all the buildings in Savannah. We all ordered the lunch buffet and could not have made a better choice. Everything I tried was delicious - fried chicken, cheesy smothered meatloaf, black-eyed peas, sweet potatoes, collard greens, mac & cheese... Of course, not the most diet-friendly fare, but that's not why you'd go to a restaurant by Paula Deen. The only black mark on our meal was that we had ordered an appetizer of fried green tomatoes that never ended up making it to our table. I would have liked to try them, but we were so full after eating all the other wonderful buffet items, that we just asked our waitress to remove them from our check. All in all, I would highly recommend this place, if you're willing to wait in line for an hour or so for some good, country cooking.
