The Paula Dean machine is in full-swing in Savannah. We thought this restaurant was OK but nothing really special...just what you'd find at a southern "meat and three" type of restaurant. We also went to Mrs. Wilkes and thought it was far superior -- great food, and you don't feel like you're going to Disney World. The lines show the power of marketing -- and TV -- and are not a reflection of the quality of the food inside.

Before visiting Lady & Sons, we read several reviews and looked at the ratings. Based on that information we went through the door with very low expectations. Based on our experience, the restaurant is getting a bad rap and you are not getting good information.

I can appreciate the bad reviews after a long wait. If we had waited a few hours in the Savannah heat and humidity for dinner, I'm sure that no restaurant could have pleased us. We did the Paula Deen tour and received VIP seating passes as part of the deal. (My wife loved it and I was bored to tears. Guys, take a good book). We went to the restaurant on a Wednesday for dinner at 7:00. We had reservations for 8:15 with the VIP passes but saw no lines at 7:00, asked about seating, and we were at a table within 5 minutes. We saved our VIP passes for the next time we are in Savannah.

Order off the menu. Don't do the buffet. Order off the menu. Don't do the buffet. Lets be honest. You can get good fried chicken in abundance anywhere in the USA. If you're feeding a couple of teenagers, send them to the buffet. You can eat what they don't like anyway. The menu has some interesting and very tasty options. The portions are American sized and nicely presented.

We started the meal by sharing a fried green tomato appetizer. Spicey and sweet, definitely worth the price. I had the shrimp and grits. The dish is spicey hot, fragrant and delicious with plenty of plump fresh shrimp. My wife had the steak and tomato pie. She thouroghly enjoyed the dinner, good flavor but the steak was overdone. The server never asked and Lynne never requested a different preparation. We finished the meal with chocolate mousse pie and peach cobbler. Both were as excellent as the clean plates indicated.

Our recommendation. If you're in Savannah, a dinner at Lady & Sons is worth the effort to get in. Plan to dine earlier or later than the crowds. Ignor the reviews and check it out for yourself. This restaurant is definitely Under Rated!!! Don't do the buffet.

Since I am a fan of the Food channel and have always wanted to visit the South, we decided to take a fast pace trip to Sanvannah and had to visit Paula! We took the Paula Deen tour and was able to go to the front of the line at the restaurant. no waiting. I really don't know what the big deal is. I ordered the buffet and wasn't that impressed. It's your basic comfort food. Our waiter was very sweet, as sweet as the sweet tea! The night we went green fried tomotoes were not on the buffet line, side order them. yummy.

I have to admit - after seeing the mixed reviews of The Lady & Sons, I was not that excited about eating here, but Paula Deen happens to be my mom's favorite cook, so my sister & I decided to bring her here to Paula's restaurant for her 60th birthday. Thankfully, we were not disappointed! We arrived at 9am to wait in line to put our names on the lunch reservation list. After waiting 1 hour, we made it to the front of the line and got reservations for a 12:30pm lunch. We returned a little later and were seated on the third floor next to a window - it was nice to be able to look out at all the buildings in Savannah. We all ordered the lunch buffet and could not have made a better choice. Everything I tried was delicious - fried chicken, cheesy smothered meatloaf, black-eyed peas, sweet potatoes, collard greens, mac & cheese... Of course, not the most diet-friendly fare, but that's not why you'd go to a restaurant by Paula Deen. The only black mark on our meal was that we had ordered an appetizer of fried green tomatoes that never ended up making it to our table. I would have liked to try them, but we were so full after eating all the other wonderful buffet items, that we just asked our waitress to remove them from our check. All in all, I would highly recommend this place, if you're willing to wait in line for an hour or so for some good, country cooking.

Our meal was FANTASTIC!! Seriously, so yummy. While we were waiting to be seated, we noticed everyone that was leaving was hunched over in pain from eating so much. We joked that we were not going to gorge ourselves, no matter how good the food was. Needless to say, we ended up walking out with painfully full bellies. We ate at the buffet (which we highly recommend). The food is not your typical "buffet" food. The macaroni and cheese and fried chicken are MUST haves!! I saw that some of the reviews of this restaurant were not great, but I am not sure why. Other than it being a VERY VERY popular restaurant, it was absolutely PERFECT!! If you are in Savannah, this is one stop you MUST make!
