Perhaps I've been pampered a bit too much but the staff at the Mansion seems to have confused haughty with good service. A disdainful front desk clerk proceeded to treat us as inferiors simply because we were muddy. It was pouring rain and we had had a flat tire at 10:30 pm. It was now midnight and we were exhausted. Rather than realizing we would need extra attention he stared us down and asked with a sniff if we could refrain from getting mud on the lobby floor. As an after thought...we had already gotten our own bags in, he asked if we would need help with our luggage. The hotel is also in a transitional neighborhood and we were approached twice by different crack addicts. They were identified as such by a security guard that worked at the Kroger two blocks away.
Housekeeping, while sweet, did a poor job of tidying up. An empty coke can was left on the counter instead of being thrown out and trash cans went without being emptied but nothing major was left unattended.
The decor was ghastly and my husband dubbed it "Liberace-esque". I don't mind artwork with erotic overtones but would prefer they not be so prominantly displayed. The rooms and linens were top quality but tacky and the red velvet curtains just contributed to the overall garishness of the place.
The shuttle service was two hours late picking us up from downtown and just shrugged when we asked why. It turns out that the pick up that was scheduled before us had cancelled so they just decided to let us wait until ...later, I guess.
To be fair, there were some bright spots. The food at 700 was superb and the waitstaff were consummate professionals. We were chilly and they moved us into another room in front of a fireplace and then lit it for us. I was both grateful and charmed. The spa staff was superior as were the services there. The art gallery there was very nice with some quality pieces in it. Forsyth park itself is lovely and provided a soothing view. When the price is added in to this equation I think your money is better spent on the Hyatt. I had badly needed some time away from our four children but the experience was not a restful one.
