After hearing glowing recommendations from several friends, four of us went to lunch on a rainy October day. We were all very pleased with our decision to try this lovely restaurant in the Mansion on Forsyth. I chose the blue crab and tasso ham entree and it was extraorinary! Other choices at the table were the bourbon glazed steak salad and Cobb salad...both were hits. The fried-green tomato sandwich was a slight letdown. The desserts were also wonderful, especially the molten chocolate cake and bread pudding. I would recommend this restaurant whole-heartedly.

I highly recommend a cooking class at the 700 Drayton Cooking School. I just returned from a Labor Day trip to Savannah with my mom. We had a great time in our cooking class with Chef Darin. He was fun and knowledgeable and taught us a ton of new cooking tips. The class is hands on so you really learn how to make everything. Anyone with any amount of cooking experience can take this class. It was intimate enough that you really felt you were learning everything and the best part is YOU GET TO ENJOY ALL THE WONDEFUL FOOD AFTERWARDS!!!! I highly recommend this when you visit Savannah (and you don't have to be staying at the Mansion on Forsyth Park -- where the cooking school is -- to take the class!)

July 21, 2007 - We traveled to Savannah for a special birthday, and spent the big night at 700 Drayton. A truly delicious meal in an amazingly designed space, but when we told several waiters and the maitre'd that the air conditioning was too aggressive and that we were freezing, the comment was always, "It's Savannah, we believe in air con." Well, we had gorgeous meals at other locations in Savannah, and no other place insisted on keeping the space sub-arctic. Bottom line, an exceptional meal was SPOILED by the ambient temperature.

We had friends visiting us for a long Memorial Day weekend in Savannah and decide to try 700 Drayton. A big mistake because the Executive Chef decided to go away with his family for the same long weekend (he should have left someone in charge or closed the restuarant). We know this because we asked about what was wrong with the kitchen as our dining experience deteriorated. Kind of amazing since this restuarant is part of a upscale inn and was filed on that Saturday night. Although I can not fault our waitresses, we had a horrible experience and worst service since there was not enough people on the floor. We had to beg for our water glasses to be refilled. My wife's soup came tepid and even after she had it sent back, the bowl was returned hot but the soup was not (by the way the soup was very good and would have been better if hot). Our main courses were brought by a server who did not know whose dinner was whose (a little side table auction for meals). One of our guests and I had ordered the grouper with a shrimp fricassee which was only remarkable due to the lack of sufficient fricassee to make it enjoyable. We decided the kitchen had it out for my wife. Her lamb came raw inside (she ordered it medium rare). So she sent it back. This time it not only came back over-cooked but her vegetables and plate came back cold (they should have put the properly broiled lamb on a new set-up plate with warm fresh vegetables). When she final got to eat her overdone lamb it was not very good. Since she did not finish it, she asked for it to be wrapped to go (to give the dogs). It took a long time for the waitress to return with the lamb wrapped to go and when she finally did return with a package she told us the kitchen had made an entirely new lamb dinner to make up for the kitchen's poor showing. The kitchen knew it had made a mess of our dinner but no one from the front of the house came over to talk to us and there was no one at the hostess desk when we left. I must say the decor is neat and the desserts were great. I called few days later and left a message for the executive chef to tell him how unhappy we were and we are still waiting for his return call. As a resident of Savannah I will not take my guests here again.
