For our roadtrip around Dixie, we knew we had to stay in the historic heart of Savannah. I was not prepared for the prices charged to stay in the locale, so we decided to splurge (within reason). We booked the cheapest room possible in the rafters of the B&B Inn and on arriving we were told that because of renovations we had been upgraded (free of charge) to the Oriental Suite. One look at its four-poster bed piled high with silk cushions and we were utterly charmed.
Check-in was friendly, fast and informative. Because of our 2-night stay we were giving a free parking pass for the car. There's a PC to check your emails. Each afternoon they have free refreshments like iced tea, wine, freshly-baked cakes and other treats. Breakfasts were varied with plenty of choice. They have a shaded balcony overlooking the courtyard out back or there's the grand dining lounge with views over the square.
The room itself was beautifully appointed with Far Eastern artworks. However, on closer inspection the fittings didn't quite live up to the pricetag. The bathroom floor was cheap lino, the taps and bath were bog standard and there were some rough edges to the finishes. Plus the TV reception was terrible and there was no view out the window except of tree branches. People with higher standards might expect more for their money, but we had no complaints and loved our stay here.
Despite being near Forsyth Park and thus a bit of a distance from the riverfront, there is plenty to see and do close by. We found some wonderful eateries and nightstpots nearby, like the Crystal Beer Parlor and Firefly Cafe.
