My wife and my goal for our last day in Savannah was to pop around town and get as many pictures as possible of all the sites we could. So, I remembered having been on an Oglethorpe Trolley Tour in the past, only $10/person, unlimited on/off service, and thought this was a no brainer.
Apparently, Oglethorpe has changed their service since the last time I went on a tour with them. In the past, I thought a person could get off the trolley at any time along the tour (at least at the predetermined stops on their map) and then just hop on the next trolley that came along. Well, this is not the case. We sat down and were informed that for the next 90 minutes, the trolley was not going to make any stops. Needless to say, my wife and I weren't too interested in this (we had been on 2 evening "ghost" tours and a 2 1/2 hour city tour already). However, we just figured that we would learn something new, as always happens on each and every tour we take.
Well, this again proved to be true. Our guide was Kevin and he had some pretty good information to share. However, Kevin kind of disturbs me and I think he has some anger issues that he is barely able to keep under control. Driving through town he would make several quite disparaging comments to people who have not parked correctly. One time, we were coming around a corner and Kevin had a tight squeeze to get by an illegally parked car. He stopped the portion of the tour directed at us and said to the driver of the illegally parked car, "Just park that thing anywhere!" The driver then retorted to all, including Kevin, "If you don't like it, go back to where you came from." Unpleasant and uncomfortable.
However, once our tour was over, we had the option of getting off at City Market (the whole trolley quickly made its exit from Kevin) and we departed. 2 other times during the day, I called to be picked up from a location in town and, within 5-10 minutes, my wife and I were being whisked away to our next destination.
Overall, a good, economic tour. Also, they were very responsive for pick-ups (we met a couple from Michigan outside the Kehoe house that had been waiting about an hour for their pick up from a different trolley company). In the end, everything worked out fairly well.
