I booked the room (standard queen) through the motel web site for $75.00 (advance purchase). I called the motel's direct line before doing so to inquire about the price and was quoted a rate of $107.00.

I didn't have any problem finding the motel and it's in a decent part of town. There are several dining options within walking distance of the motel, and Abercorn St. takes you straight in to the historic district of Savannah.

The reception at check-in felt a little aloof, but when trying to get to our room one of the employees that ran into us in the hall led us to our room and also carried my bag up the stairs for me. This was very helpful since I was traveling with my 6-year old grandson and I had all of the "stuff" that you have to have when traveling with kids. Just to let you know, he didn't do this for a tip...I wasn't carrying any cash with me and he pretty much opened the door, let us in, said have a good evening and left before I would have been able to offer him a tip.

The room was a standard motel room. The good about the room -- it was clean. The bed linens, the furniture and the carpet were clean. The housekeeping staff must be pretty thorough in their cleaning. There's a coffee maker in the room and the coffee packet offered was actually good and fresh. The not-so-good -- the room lacked adequate lighting (except for the vanity area). The bathroom was so dim that when you pull the shower curtain closed, you're pretty much in the dark. The mattress, in my opinion, wasn't just firm it was hard. I woke up with hip and lower back ache. The pillows leave a lot to be desired, very poor quality. There's no fridge/microwave. The standard room is pretty much a $60.00 room that goes for 75.00 (advance purchase) during Memorial week, and that I would never pay $107.00 for. They do have other rooms, I believe, that have a fridge/microwave and also a balcony or patio. They must be the deluxe rooms or suites.

The manager's reception offered drinks, alcoholic and non-alcholic (I believe a 2 drink limit, which is approriate), and vegetables, dip, crackers and snack mix. The gentleman (who, I'm pretty sure, was not the manager) that took care of the reception, was wonderful. As far as personality goes, the motel has a very good employee in this man. He was just as kind with the children as he was with the adults. Hey, he was good to my grandson, therefore he was good to me!

The breakfast was decent. The hot items were so-so. I believe the eggs were powdered (there was a lot of water in the pan and in the eggs). The sausage was cocktail sausages, not breakfast sausage links. They do have toast, bagels, cereal, waffles and fruit. Also, coffee, juice, tea and milk.

The courtyard area is nice, and the pool area was clean.

This motel, in my opinion, isn't a 3-Star motel, maybe a 2 1/2. They could be a 3-Star if the management would look at the quality of what they offer in their rooms. They already have a few quality employees.

After reading several reviews I was hesitant to stay at the Clubhouse Inn. Ended up calling the manager of the hotel and found that the franchise had been purchased Apr 1. Previous reviews had indicated dirty, not well maintained, dark, unfriendly staff. After talking with the manager I felt the hotel was worth a try. They are going to start a rennovation in the near future.

I am very happy to report that the hotel is clean, adequate to good maintenance, average lighting, friendly staff willing to help wherever and whenever. The hotel is layed out similar to Courtyard by Marriott but I believe a little larger rooms. Towels, etc were good for 3-star hotel. Breakfast was very good (scrambled eggs, bacon or sausage, waffles, cereal, etc. Evening managers welcome hour is good with free drinks.

I recommend the hotel as it is good qualty, within 15 minutes of the visitor center and historic district.

“Great Place to Stay”

Clubhouse Inn & Suites Savannah

29 Apr 2008

Very nice well-kept motel. Clean and very comfortable. Staff very friendly. My husband and I was on vacation and enjoyed the social hour in the evening which we found very relaxing after a full day of walking the historic district and visiting with other travelers. The breakfast was excellent with a variety of hot and cold breakfast food. Very nice large eating area. Straight down the street to the historic district, free internet access. Many amenties. We would stay there again.

We reserved 2 rooms, 2 queen beds. We were pleasantly suprised with the value of what we received. Our rooms were non smoking and very clean. We were impressed with the breakfast..great selection of hot and cold varieties, including fresh fruit. They had a belgian waffle maker which was a hit. Twenty four hour coffee and tea was a plus. We were in a great location for getting around Savannah. Would definitely recommend this location. It is set off the road which makes it very quiet. Also, the entry to the rooms are inside, good for safety as well and your room key is needed to enter the hotel.
