My husband, daughter, and I were coming through Savannah on our way to Orlando, FL, so that we could pick up my husband's son. We decided to stay over to break our 15-hour trip into two segements. I was not expecting much from a Days Inn--basic, clean, and safe was all I wanted. I got the first, but not the second or third.
On the good side, the staff was friendly and the place was quiet. We had our dog with us and it was nice to find a pet-friendly hotel that didn't charge an extraordinary fee (only a $10 pet fee per night). The continental breakfast was typical (bagels, toast, cereal, fruit, muffins, coffee, and juice) and plentiful.
On the bad side, the lock on the door barely worked and many of the other guests were "creepy" to say the least. Had I been there with just my husband, this wouldn't have been much of a concern, but with the kids it was a problem. Every time I stepped out there was some guy (3-5 different ones) just wandering around drinking and peering in rooms. Since they were bored, my husband finally agreed to take the kids down to the pool so they could swim, but noticed one of these men watching our 12-year-old daughter in a distinctly unsavory way and brought them back to the room after only 10 minutes. After that, we refused to let either her or our 10-year-old boy go outside the room alone for any reason.
Though the basic areas of the room were cleaned (sink, tub, sheets), there was a build up of filth in the carpet, on the walls, and on the windows. There were dead bugs and other unidentifiable items smeared on the walls and doors, a dirty coffee pot, and various stains and nasty smells. The dog was so freaked out by the smell that she kept scratching to get out of the room every five minutes. As I found from taking her on repeated walks, there were also numerous bottles, bottle caps, and lots and lots of food garbage strewn about the grounds, as well. To top it off, the single vending machine on the property didn't work.
Unfortunately, we were booked in again four nights later on our return trip and our budget didn't permit us to cancel the nonrefundable reservation. We found the second experience much the same as the first. And, the vending machine still didn't work (I had told the front desk it was out-of-order on our first stay).
Honestly, I have stayed in much worse, but not for this money ($60-70 per night). If you are a single guy or not-too-picky couple who just need a bed to crash in, it's acceptable, but you can probably do better. I wouldn't bring kids here, though.
Please note: Even though it's billed as an "airport" hotel, it's back behind the airport in a very industrial area. There is very, very little around.
