My wife and I have just returned from a touring holiday of Georgia and Tennessee including Atlanta, Chattanooga, Nashville and Memphis. As there was a substantial amount of travelling involved at the start of our tour, we decided to take easy and spend the last few days in Savannah. This city is an absolute delight, with its 22 garden squares forming the heart of the historic district.
When we arrived, we went to the visitors information centre to find out about accommodation. We were quite keen to stay in a B&B for a change as the rest of our trip had consisted of Hampton Inns (which were all very good) and we were looking for something different. However, while we were in the centre, we met a very charming lady (Hello Sue) who happened to be the Marketing Manager of the Holiday Inn and she convinced us to try the Mulberry Inn. How glad we were that we did!
This is not like a standard Holiday Inn. It has been designed to be very much like a large old colonial house with a large lobby tastefully decorated in grand old southern style. In the afternoon, a musician played the grand piano in the lobby while we partook of afternoon tea - what a delight.
The staff (every one without exception) were extremely friendly and helpful, and Bartley in particular was very helpful with advice on touring the city and surrounding area.
The hotel itself has free parking (if you are a Holiday Inn Priority Club member). It's very central for the river walk and all the beautiful restaurants that line the bank.
On our first night the air conditioning broke down, however within 20 minutes or so, we were upgraded to a suite at no extra cost.
Hopefully we'd like to return to Savannah one day and if we do we'd certainly stay at the Mulberry.
