The DeSoto Hilton in Savannah is a beautiful hotel, but the thing that makes this hotel great is the staff.
From the bellman that greeted us at the door to the highly efficient front desk staff to the wonderfully knowledgable concierge, our stay was terrific.
From our room, we could walk out to the pool, which was warm at 7:00am.
The staff greeted us each day by name. Valet got our car quickly.
All in all, this was a great stay and we would go back in a heartbeat.

A family member went for business, my daughter and I tagged along for pleasure. I adore the city and plan to return, but I will investigate other hotels. The room was initially set up for three guests, but after that first night we never had enough bath linens. We didn't receive refills for the coffee maker, and the complimentary wi-fi had been turned off. There was also a problem with the shower -- it didn't matter what temperature you started with, you could watch the knob gradually turn to HOT. For an adult it wasn't a big deal to reach around and adjust, but it was annoying. This had been reported by the previous guest, but it never got to management -- the guest comment card was still on the desk ;-|

Prior to my arrival, the hotel manager had been advised that I would be checking in early. I arrived at the hotel at 11:00AM and had to wait two hours before I could get to my room. So much for southern hospitality. The room looked more like a Motel 6 that a Hilton property. Cheap bedding (polyester spread, thin and worn out pillows, fitted sheets with a loose elastic that caused the sheet to come off the mattress when I turned around in the bed at night), the desk was all scratched and should be retired to a tag sale, and, icing on the cake, I found a pubic hair on the bathroom floor. The public areas of the hotel look shabby as well. Overall a negative experience. And outrageous charges.

We stayed in a king room on the 12th floor on March 26 & 27. The room was clean, comfortable and had a fabulous view of the city from both the room and balcony. The bathroom and dressing area were large, 2 terry cloth robes were in the closet and the bath amenities from Crabtree & Evelyn.

Everyone at the hotel was very friendly and helpful. Daily housekeeping was excellent, as was our dinner in the hotel's Magnolia Restaurant.

The hotel location is excellent and we walked everywhere downtown during our stay. We were very glad we stayed here and not at a hotel on River Street which is extremely noisy because of constant tractor trailer traffic. The Hilton is central to everything and we were able to walk anywhere within 10 minutes or less. We discovered a great pizza place, The Mellow Mushroom, half a block away from the Hilton. It's a college hangout but has the best pizza, salads and sandwiches at great prices.

The concierge level lounge on the 13th floor always had friendly staff, although seating was limited and we had to wait for a table every time we went for continental breakfast and evening cocktails.

We enjoyed our mini-vacation at the Hilton, and would definitely stay there again.
