Stayed for 1 night on Sunday October 8, 2006.

Standard Hampton Inn property. Complimentary breakfast in the morning.

Historic area is about at 20 minute walk i.e. River, houses, squares, etc. Old Savannah Tours is across the street and for $20 you get a tour of the whole historic area (1.5 hours).

Paid parking with limited spots. Complimentary internet.

Just returned from Savannah and stayed at the Hampton. The location is great, you can easily walk anywhere within the historic district. The staff is super!! A special compliment to the housekeeping staff, especially Diane on the sixth floor, for their prompt service and friendly attitude. The staff is very helpful in making recommendations on what to see and where to eat. Overall, a great place to stay.

My mom and I stayed here over Labor Day weekend (Friday and Saturday night). It is the nicest Hampton Inn I have ever stayed in. The location was perfect - right across the street from River Street. The staff was helpful and the room was clean and neat. The beds were extremely comfortable and the breakfast each morning was terrific! We were within walking distance of everything we wanted to do and we would definitely stay here again. Noise was not a problem, and neither was parking. We parked across the street in the city lot and didn't have to pay as our ticket was validated at the front desk. The pool was out of order and there is no hot tub, but we still had a wonderful stay.

    • Any tips/secrets for future travellers? — Park across the street in the city garage to save the $10 parking fee per day. The front desk will validate your parking stub.

We just returned from a three night stay (Thursday to Saturday) at the Hampton Inn and Suites on Bay Street. The major complaint we had is their parking. We paid the $10 per day parking with unlimited in and out privileges. However, if their two level, tightly cramped parking under the hotel is full you are directed by the hotel staff to park across the street in the public parking garage which was no more than $2.00 (overnight on the weekend). Your parking ticket is validated at the front desk so you don't have to pay when you exit the garage. There is an elevator on both ends of the garage (on Drayton St and on Abercorn St) so you don't have to struggle with your luggage on the stairs. We don't know what the max rate is during the weekday, but you may want to check this out prior to checking in. Because of the hotel's excellent location, we were able to walk to most places and rarely took our car out. Next time we will park across the street in the nicely lit garage and save money.

This location cannot be beat! Right across from River St. not much is more than walking distance. But, do bring good walking shoes. If you book a tour they will even pick up and bring you to sites at least the entire day (our's did for 2 days). Since at least 2 tours stop right at the Hampton Inn if you don't want to walk this is a great option.
This hotel is not your typical Hamton Inn it is much more of a Botique Hotel. As soon as you walk in the door you feel welcome.
The front desk staff and concierge were always polite and helpful. Since they seemed to know a lot of the guests by name I think they get a lot of "regulars", who seemed very happy.
The rooms facing River St have an awesome view (we were on the 6th floor). We could see the ships passing and we would run to the roof to get a better view (we were not the only one's doing this). The street noise never bothered us at all , the only time we woke up was one night when a freighter went by on the river and blew it's foghorn.
The pool on the roof is very nice and so unique. My daughter's loved it !
Savannah is a beautiful city and this hotel is a great home base.
The one drawback and it is with Savannah itself is the public drinking that goes on. River St. would be a much safer place if the drinking was kept INSIDE the bars and restaurants. The people who were drinking outside of them certainly did not seem as if they could afford to go inside, so why this is allowed is beyond me. My teenage daughter's certainly felt intimidated by the comments made to them by this scary crowd on the walks back to the hotel from the restaurants.
There was also a strong police presence every day and night we were at the Hampton Inn. Hopefully Savannah will find a way to keep their lively nightclub scene while at the same time families can feel safe walking around. It has so much to offer!
