Me and my family of four were passing through NY. We decided to stay in the Quality Inn. What we thought would be a pleasant motel was the biggest SHAMBLES we had ever come across.
At the reception stood a small dark Indian man. He was on the phone on a personal call. We told him that we'd like a room but he carried on talking on the phone rudely in another language for a few minutes. When he finally did speak to us in broken English he told us about the room. We asked if we could see the room. He RUDELY told us that we could either take the room or leave it. We reluctantly decided to take the room as it was late.
As soon as we entered the room we knew we had made a mistake. The carpet was FILTHY with what appeared to be fur balls of animal hair on the carpet. The STENCH from the bathroom was unbearable. The edges of the bathtub were covered in black MOLD and there was a smell of DAMP. We complained about the SHODDY room to the receptionist. Once again we were told to either take the room or leave the room. He then had the further cheek to tell us that if we left we would not be given a refund. At this moment he also thought appropriate to slag off the nearby Econo-Lodge which thankfully we did stay at the following night.
The Econo-Lodge I'm pleased to say was much better. The hotel had been renovated and was clean with plenty of amenities such as a fridge an iron and free breakfast.
So in summary
DO NOT STAY AT THE HOLIDAY INN IN ROME. It has to be one of the worst examples of a motel I have ever seen. The standards of hygiene were unbearable and so was the level of service.
My advice is to always check the room. Its not all about the name on the sign
