My husband and my parents stayed at the Heathman Lodge for the weekend after reviewing the great reviews on TripAdvisor. The lodge is very lovely. We stayed on the fourth floor, the business level. The complimentary breakfast was a nice added touch. The rooms were spacious and quiet. We left the window open and could hear a little freeway noise but it did not bother us. We left the window open because we could not figure out how to turn off/down the air conditioner. We just unplugged it. Our only complaint about the lodge was the dinner we had our first night. We do not mind paying for a nice expensive dinner but when the food is just "okay" that does not leave a good impression on us. My dad had the lamb kobos and the lamb was overcooked big time! I had the cedar plank salmon and it was so salty I could not even eat it. My husband had the pot roast which he said was just "okay." My mom was safe with her large cesear salad. If you eat in the restaurant just be aware that the food is overpriced and not 5 star quality. We did give our recommendation to the front desk and they said they would pass it on to the chef. The front desk staff and the restaurant staff were very friendly. Regardless of the food, we would stay there again.
I stayed at the Heathman a few weeks ago for three nights. Price was right, location poor, room was large. Problems: new carpet in room - it took me three days to realize the headache I had each morning was from the new carpet and carpet glue, one of the sinks didn't drain properly, and the electrical plug by the desk didn't work - I plugged in my laptop for recharging one night, no charge the next morning. I wrote to the GM of the hotel after my stay - he offered to make sure I had a good time on my next visit. Big deal. I'll be looking for a different hotel next time.
I booked this almost as an afterthought as we were heading to the Columbia Gorge area for a special anniversary stay at the Skamania Lodge.I spoke with Melissa in reservations and took all the info then later called her back to book just one nite. She made a great first impression for what was to be a wonderful stay.
We arrived to find we had been upgraded to a suite with rose petals welcoming us from the door to our bed.It was a lovely room with a great bed & balcony. Also, a large bathroom with all the perks.
We went down to the bar area and were so impressed with the staff. We appreciated the precision of the chefs all working together with the wait staff.High energy atmosphere and a great place to unwind. Jim took great care of us. Wonderful menu !
It was a bit tricky to find when we got off the freeway .The location is a bit odd, although the wet lands do help to create a setting...
What a difference we experienced between the two lodges: in their service, room quality,& value. The winner in all three areas was:The Heathman Lodge.
Although the Heathman Lodge is not an all inclusive destination type resort, it definitely held its own. Thank you all so much!
Just came back from a long weekend at the Heathman Lodge (do not confuse this with the Heathman Hotel in downtown Portland). It is centrally located near the highway and I-205 Freeway. I have friends an family in Vancouver, but have always stayed in Portland when I visited. The prices had been getting ever steeper, so I thought I would try a Vancouver hotel. I was upgraded to the conceirge or business floor - the 4th (top floor) and had a lovely little balcony that looked out over some trees. Several have commented on Freeway noise - I didn't hear any. The rooms were incredibly quiet, I didn't even hear my neighbors until the next morning when they came out of their room for breakfast.
The staff was wonderful, from the moment I checked in to the time I left I encountered happy, cheerful, helpful staff. From the cleaning staff to the front desk to the restaurant - very sweet. The room was spacious and very clean. I liked the Tempurpedic beds, even having had a bad experience with a similar bed type.
Yes, the coffee wasn't the greatest (even though Tully's is generally good coffee), but we in the Northwest are admittedly coffee snobs, so we tend to be a bit critical. The coffee in the restaurant was fine. Speaking of which, we had a lovely birthday dinner at Hudson's. The food was amazing, fresh and local, and prepared well. Nary a complaint at a table of 7 sometimes picky eaters.
All in all, an incredible hotel at a reasonable cost. The Heathman has just become my hotel of choice for all my Portland visits!
