“Wow! Lovely Property”

I booked this almost as an afterthought as we were heading to the Columbia Gorge area for a special anniversary stay at the Skamania Lodge.I spoke with Melissa in reservations and took all the info then later called her back to book just one nite. She made a great first impression for what was to be a wonderful stay.
We arrived to find we had been upgraded to a suite with rose petals welcoming us from the door to our bed.It was a lovely room with a great bed & balcony. Also, a large bathroom with all the perks.
We went down to the bar area and were so impressed with the staff. We appreciated the precision of the chefs all working together with the wait staff.High energy atmosphere and a great place to unwind. Jim took great care of us. Wonderful menu !
It was a bit tricky to find when we got off the freeway .The location is a bit odd, although the wet lands do help to create a setting...
What a difference we experienced between the two lodges: in their service, room quality,& value. The winner in all three areas was:The Heathman Lodge.
Although the Heathman Lodge is not an all inclusive destination type resort, it definitely held its own. Thank you all so much!

“Excellent choice for the Portland/Vancouver area”

Just came back from a long weekend at the Heathman Lodge (do not confuse this with the Heathman Hotel in downtown Portland). It is centrally located near the highway and I-205 Freeway. I have friends an family in Vancouver, but have always stayed in Portland when I visited. The prices had been getting ever steeper, so I thought I would try a Vancouver hotel. I was upgraded to the conceirge or business floor - the 4th (top floor) and had a lovely little balcony that looked out over some trees. Several have commented on Freeway noise - I didn't hear any. The rooms were incredibly quiet, I didn't even hear my neighbors until the next morning when they came out of their room for breakfast.

The staff was wonderful, from the moment I checked in to the time I left I encountered happy, cheerful, helpful staff. From the cleaning staff to the front desk to the restaurant - very sweet. The room was spacious and very clean. I liked the Tempurpedic beds, even having had a bad experience with a similar bed type.

Yes, the coffee wasn't the greatest (even though Tully's is generally good coffee), but we in the Northwest are admittedly coffee snobs, so we tend to be a bit critical. The coffee in the restaurant was fine. Speaking of which, we had a lovely birthday dinner at Hudson's. The food was amazing, fresh and local, and prepared well. Nary a complaint at a table of 7 sometimes picky eaters.

All in all, an incredible hotel at a reasonable cost. The Heathman has just become my hotel of choice for all my Portland visits!

We stayed in the concierge level for a weekend. From the moment we arrived to the moment we left, we found the Heathman Lodge extremely comfortable, helpful, and relaxing. It's location to Portland was wonderful, so we did not take advantage of the Lodge's restaurant. The room was clean and well-suited to our needs. My daughter and I loved the Tempur-Pedic beds; my wife felt they were too hard. Business and kitchen facilities were fine. The lodge decor is very relaxing. We had a room by the highway, but we had no problem with noise. The pool was good and clean; our daughter enjoyed it very much. The hotel staff was very helpful, and were more than accomodating. They answered every question completely and helpfully. The Lodge location is very accessible to Vancouver, Portland, and Mt. St. Helens.

This was my first time at the Heathman, though my partner has stayed there several times on business, thus why we chose to stay there while attending a wedding in the Vancouver/Portland area. It was just wonderful. The lodge-like atmosphere alone is worth it. We were able to get an upgrade at our same AAA rate to the 4th floor business level with a balcony, so it was worth asking the question at checkin. As it was a Friday, the only "extra" was the continental breakfast served on the 4th floor (typically there are other weekday...M-Th...extras), but that was fine as we were only there for an overnight, with most of the time spent at the wedding at Fort Vancouver. We had drinks and appetizers in the lobby/lounge. Wonderful piano player and the waitstaff was great. We did order room service later that evening, which was very quick and the server was very friendly. We had one issue with the TV remote not working, but a quick call to the desk and the maintenance guy came immediately with a replacment. Had a great nights sleep on the Tempur-Pedic mattress...we have one at home, so are used to it, though I realize it can take some getting used to, as mentioned in some of the other posts. All in all, a great experience for a great price. Definately a level of service and ambiance that you would only expect from a $200+ a night hotel.

“Very Friendly, Good Value”

I agree with the high praise of the other reviewers, so will not write a long review. The front desk staff was extremely helpful during our stay, and made the Mother's Day weekend very special. We had a room on the front, so there was no traffic noise at all, as mentioned previously. Also, there was staff at the front entrance to great us and assist with baggage. We booked the room on a great manager's special, about half the usual rate, so one may want to check out their website before booking. The look, feel and friendliness of the staff reminded me of the way lodges in the Canadian National Parks treat guests. The restaurant was excellent, with a terrific Mother's Day brunch. We've already decided to return next year, same time, same place.
