we stayed here for 3 nights.

very nice staff, real friendly, great breakfast and snacks:)

Room 12 is not worth the money, though, in our opinion.

Paint is coming a bit of the wall, the lamp in the bathroom hung out (has to be fixed, i always thought it would crush on my head as i stood by the sink), the whole room seems to need a bit of restauration.

The information book in the room about the Inn is not up to date, the announced comment sheet was missing.

Wirless did not work constantly, which was a bit of a hassle for us as we need it for business.

i am a travel agent and recently had the pleasure of staying at the Bertram /Samuel Sewell Inn in Brookline MA. this inn was meticulously kept, beautifully decorated, and the breakfast and snacks were delicious.the staff was attentive, pleasant, and went above and beyond to help with any request.we have stayed at hotels but this B&B was a much better value by far. i would highly recommend staying here.

“Wonderful Inn!”

The Bertram Inn

My husband, grandson and I spent two nights at this wonderful inn last week. We arrived early and were greated warmly by Astrid, a very nice and hospitable young lady. Since it was early our room was not ready, but she offered to hold our luggage until it was prepared. Our room was warm and comfortable (we stayed in #7).....we loved it! We can't say enough about the people who work here.....office persons and housekeeping were all helpful with any requests we had. There were three area's to eat breakfast or snack during the day.....food was fresh and delicious!
This is within walking distance of the Longwood Medical Center, Wheelock College and the T. We walked everywhere and felt completely safe day or even late at nite.
Thanks so much to the staff of Bertam Inn......we had a wonderful visit to Boston!

“An inn that impresses”

The Bertram Inn was my first inn experience and won't be my last!
Upon check in the staff was warm and friendly to us all....our dog even recieved dog biscuits! We were only staying for one night but the staff was very friendly and helpful. They provided us with the number of a local groomer/doggie day care so we can drop off our dog while enjoying the Duck Tours. (Although he was more than welcome to stay in our room). An off duty employee even helped us find parking as overnight parking is a little tricky if you don't get a spot early. I enjoyed the comfort of the room and would stay at The Bertram again when I am in Boston!

“Mixed Review of Bertram”

The Bertram Inn

2 Aug 2007

My wife and I spent seven nights, and most of the experience was good. I'll list positive and then negative comments.

Positive:
1. The location is ideal for Boston University, and anyplace in downtown Boston or connected by the T. Also Brookline is well worth investigating. You won't need a car to get to most spots in the metro area.
2. The place is clean and reasonably quiet. It's air-conditioned.
3. The breakfast is good and plentiful. The staff that serve breakfast and clean the rooms are all excellent.
4. The clientele seem interesting and polite people who are good to get to know.
5. Many of the staff persons are friendly and pleasant. Special commendation to Joe.

Negative:
1. Some of the staff is seemingly untrained or new on the job. It's a very minor thing, but I had to ask four people to change the lightbulb above the bathroom sink. All four said it would be done. Only the last, Joe, actually saw to it.
2. The lighting in the room is not good. A few of the staff ought to try writing at the desk in the evening. No light nearby. Also poor lighting in the bathroom over the sink, even with all the bulbs installed.
3. The booklet in the room informing guests of hotel policies and features is out of date. We had a backed-up toilet the first morning. The number to call did not yield an answer--only a phone company recording. The next morning we were told that, Oh, the number in the booklet is out of date. That number had not been changed by the time we left.
4. Also out of date is the information relating to times someone is on duty at the desk. I could find no one to help us with the problem mentioned in number three. That was about 6:30 a.m. I was told later that the time listed in the booklet for staff availability was also out of date. Who knew?
Very little money would alleviate these problems. All the comments we read in the guest book were the usual praise, but I have a feeling that those who are dissatisfied don't write anything. After all, the young staff are by and large very nice. I'd say this is a place on the edge of being very good, instead of just good.
