Because Boston hotels were so expensive when we wanted to take our 1st anniversary trip, we decided to try a bed & breakfast. My husband and I were both unsure what to expect, but if all b&b's are this great we will travel this way more often!

Location: The b&b is located in Brookline, a great suburb of Boston where Boston University is located. The immediate neighborhood where the Sewall is located is very safe and there is a great area with shops a few blocks away. The "T" stop is one block away, you can't get much closer than that! Hopping on the T the ride into the center of the city takes less than 10 minutes. We parked our car in the parking lot and never moved it until we checked out. Very convenient.

Rooms: Our room was beautiful! On the first floor, it featured a huge king-sized bed and hard wood floors. Private bath was a must for us, and it was beautiful as well. The room had plenty of closet space and drawers for clothing and other items. Bonus was the small refrigerator.
Often times in hotels I strip the bedspread off before doing anything else. Gross! Here I did not get that "been slept on 1,000 times before" vibe at all. It was like staying in a very well kept home, not a hotel at all. You can tell that the hotel staff takes great pains to keep the rooms immaculately clean and cared for.

Ammenities: Breakfast was served from 8-10 every morning. If you woke up earlier than that, there was cold breakfast served. Between breakfast hours they added hot coffee, juices, and a hot item for the day. Monday was the best- make your own waffles!
Surprisingly, our room was very quiet despite being at the foot of the stairs. There must have been kids in every room (we saw them EVERYWHERE) but once our door was closed most of the outside noises disappeared. Very little made it in to us, and it certainly wasn't loud enough to wake us up ever.

Overall the location was great, the room and public rooms were spottless, and we truly enjoyed our stay. We will definitely stay here again if we return to Boston.

Just a side note- if there are no rooms available here, try their sister b&b across the street.

As I stepped into the Sewall Inn away from the familiar din of cars, sirens, and construction Boston offers as daily soundtrack, I felt as Lucy must have felt as she crossed the threshold of the wardrobe into that wonderous, otherworldly land of Narnia. The first room you enter is a combination dining/sitting room fresh out of an Austen novel. I was greated by one of the many gracious innkeepers who made my stay feel like a visit to a home I've never had. My room came complete with four large windows letting in magnificent light to reveal a fireplace, a dangerously comfortable king-size bed, a silk upholstered fainting couch, and modern amenities such as a television, dvd player (the inn has a selection of dvds available), and telephone. The bathroom was clean and fully stocked. There were snacks available at all times in the sitting/dining room and in the morning there was a full breakfast served offering hot and cold foods of higher than average quality. I have stayed in many hotels, inns, and b&b's across America and Europe and I can say that none of them have been quite like the Sewall Inn in its charm, comfort, and ability to enchant one's imagination.

We stayed at the Sewall Inn for one night while in Boston while visiting and seeing a show at the Wang Theater (Michael Buble!!)before heading to the North Shore. We were travelling with friends and they stayed at the sister Inn the Bertram Inn across the street. I have to say that when I called to reserve the room the staff was very helpful. When we arrived things looked as nice as they did on their website and everything was nicely decorated and clean!! Which is very important to us as we are seasoned Inn and B&B Travellers. We came into town earlier than checkin and even though our room wasn't ready (which was understandable because we were early) they let us checkin and leave our car in the parking lot for the 15.00 (reasonable fee) so we could take the train into the city and explore for the day. When we returned in the afternoon there were snacks we could grab before getting ready for the show and heading back into the city a nice touch. A definite plus about this location is how close it is to the t-train. We checked out the Bertram Inn that our friends stayed at across the street and accomodations there were just as nice. We actually had breakfast at their Inn which I have to say is a little larger and has a nice deck with a view. Great breakfast choices and reasonable rates compared to those in the city. Nice part of this Inn or both for that matter is the comfort and special touches of a B&B with the great closeness of the city. We will stay again when in Boston as will our friends.

We had two rooms for three nights from 7/30 to 8/2/2007. This was the third B&B in which we stayed while traveling throughout New England, and it was by far the best in this price range.

Despite the busy location, our room was totally quiet and peaceful. The beds were heavenly, good mattresses and pillows, with step stools to aid in climbing into the antique beds and chocolates on the bed at night along with the information sheet for the next day's weather and menu . The bathroom was very clean with Frette towels and bathrobes. Breakfast was excellent with a different main dish each day, as well as home-baked pastries and granola, fresh fruit and cereals. Coffee, tea and snacks were available all day.

The staff were friendly and helpful, but it is the attention to detail throughout the home that sets the Samuel Sewall Inn apart from others. With no overnight on-street parking allowed in Brookline, the Inn's parking is a big plus.

Spent last Sunday Night at the Samuel Sewall Inn after seeing a show at the Paradise Rock Club which is adjacent to Boston University. The Inn is an old fashioned New England B+B. The room and public areas were spotlessly clean. With a "T" train stop at the next block, I thought it would we noisier but all was peaceful and quiet. The "T" stops at Fenway Park-Kenmore Square but you could walk the few blocks. There was unlimited coffee anytime and goodies in the dining area.Breakfast was continental style which was fine because we don't eat much in the morning anyway. Book a room through their website, it was less expensive than Orbitz.com or Hotels.com
