Reservationist mixed up the arrival date for my room. Didn't have another room to accommodate at the same rate, however did have a "Deluxe" room to offer at double the price of the original room. Didn't offer the same rate, or any other perk for the mixup, even though it was admitted to be their fault. I was determined to stay either way so I accepted the "Deluxe" room at the unreasonable rate. When arriving at the "Deluxe" room, I anticpated something a little nicer. This is the room I would have expected for the original rate. It was a nice room and all, but nothing "Deluxe" about it. At any rate, the resort is world class for its hot springs, sled dog tours, snowmachine tours, and the beautiful aurora borealis. The front desk does offer a wakeup call when the lights are out. Also on the property is the amazing Ice Hotel with four rooms offered at $600 per night. Everything in the refrigerated building is made of ice, including martini glasses that are offered at $15 a pop with Stoli vodka. Well worth paying the extra money to stay the night, just wish we would have been accommodated a little better for their mixup in the reservation.

“Far Exceeded Expectations”

Chena Hot Springs Resort

26 Jan 2008

After reading the reviews of Chena, my friend and I were not expecting the best, however, I had heard really good things about the resort from the locals in Anchorage. We had a fabulous time! This is not a Ritz nor should it be! You are 60 miles away from Fairbanks in the middle of nowhere and it is the perfect place to just check out. Turn your cell phones off because you won't get a signal and being hardcore city girls, that was a welcome change. There is internet service but why the hell would you want to bring your laptop - Relax! The hotel was completely renovated, the food was great (definitely eat a salad - the lettuce they grow in the greenhouse simply melts in your mouth) and the custom made beds were unbelievable - right up there with the Hotel de Crillon in Paris. There was snow everywhere - it was like a winter wonderland. We hiked, snowshoed and then soaked in the hot springs. Staff was wonderful - a big thanks to Sandra, Marie, Patty, Rusty, Spencer and the facinating owner, Bernie, (ya gotta love Bernie) for making us feel so welcome and our stay so much fun. The entire resort is powered using geo-thermal energy - do that tour, it is so interesting! Our only ding is that the locker room area needs a facelift.

We can't say enough good things about Chena, but we will try.
The resort was wonderful- our rooms were spacious and very comfortable- newly decorated.
The staff at Chena is the best- Jerimiah at the front Desk was the first member we met and he was gracious and helpful. The bar and restaurant staff, Sandra, Marie, Jessica, Al, Calicia and Joy made us all feel at home. We miss their special hospitality and our favorite table. The Ice Museum Tour was a wonderful. We even got to meet the ice sculpter, Steve. What a gifted man. Our favorite character was the owner, Bernie. He is the shining star of Chena. He is a warm and caring man. Always greeted us and made us feel welcome. We went to Chena to see the Northern Lights but unfortunately the weather was not on our side- despite missing the lights, the time we spent at Chena Hot Springs will remain with us and look forward to a return trip- we have to see those lights!

I have been going to Chena for about 5 years and have seen many visible changes but the biggest change i have seen has been in the management and staff and its not good , I had a problem while staying there and had asked to speak to the general manage because the staff at the front desk said that they could not help me, after a very short visit with him he told me that if i did not like it i could leave and he said it did not matter if i came back or not i, I am going there again this year i really do enjoy the lake and it is nice to get out I will write another review and update everyone further good or bad.

“Not impressed”

The food was horrid. Rule of thumb, don't eat sea food that is a long way from the sea. Halibut had to have been prepackaged and frozen. Dirty, flithy changing rooms. I was not impressed with the service we received at the dinning room or the pool area. The entire place is need of maintance and cleaning.
