“Great Stay in Fairbanks”

Stayed at the Regency Fairbanks in August 2007. With the excep-
tion of not having safe-deposit boxes at the front desk (surprising-
the staff offered to put my belongings in a lockbox but I declined)everything else about this property was superb with a considerably lower rate than the other downtown hotels. I was picked up at the
Alaska Railroad station by the hotel van and a few minutes later arrived at the hotel-consists of three floors in a residential area
approx. 12 short blocks from the heart of downtown so there no
noise issues to worry about. The lobby is actually two separate
rooms - a large sitting area by the entrance with stuffed animals
and portraits of frontier Alaska. The lobby proper has the front desk
and a computer room-library- game room in back for relaxing and catching up on E-mail. Also, a very welcome plus is a sundeck on the third floor where one can talk, relax have a drink. The rooms are among the best I've seen at any hotel - mine came with two lagre beds(among the most comfortable I have ever slept in) a work desk, bureau and a TV hanging on the wall. The furnishings were a bit retro in appearance but this is not a bad thing, especially when the room is so immaculate and comfortable. The restaurant (in the basement level but brightly decorated with aquariums on the walls;nice touch!) served excellent food - ample breakfasts and delicious dinners (had dinner there twice) at better prices than other downtown locations. The service at the restaurant, and indeed througour the entire hotel was perfect, with everyone most cour- teous and accomodating - one of the staff even volunteered to drive me to and from a couple of tourist attractions I would not have been able to reach without a car (unfortunately, the free city tourist shuttle had stopped ruuning for the season - you really need a car to reach the attractions outside the city center. The hotel's slightly out of the way location shiould not be an obstacle to staying here - the city blocks are short and taxis are reasonable should one need them. Or talk to the staff about a ride on the van;would'nt hurt! Should I ever return to Fairbanks the Regency would be my top hotel of choice. Wholeheartedly recommended!

I stayed at this hotel on 3/4/08. I was previously staying at the Springhill Suites across town but could not book this particular night. I had my doubts when I first pulled up, the hotel is constructed of decorative concret block but the lobby was alluring as you walk in stuffed animals including full size bear old photographs throughout a very nice lobby and seating area. My room was a double bed room with galley kitchen. The kitchen communicates with the bedrooms and it is essentially all 1 large room. Although not the latest furnishings and carpet in my room it was not bad. Linenes were clean. Curtains drab reminiscent of a time long ago but clean. Large electric range with oven and economy grade teflon coated pans. No sharp knives, no salt or pepper, plastic cups (except coffee cups) china was real. Very cheap phone with 2 buttons, redial and flash. Jacuzzi in bathroom worked but appeared old as did bathroom furnishings. The price for march approx $82. The hallways reminded me of the hotel in the film the shining bright red patterns of carpet, oak trim, multipe mirrors on walls and the halls were clean. A view of the local Moose club to rear provided late nite entertainment. Im not knocking the hotel overall for the money I would say its not bad and rooms are large. Housekeeping could be better, partially eaten cookie in my bed frame, childrens toy car under my bed.

This property is sure gettting a facelift. I have been staying here a long time guest and frequent Fairbanks often. The lobby was remodeled this last summer. The rooms have recieved new furniture, minus the kitchettes. Hopefully those are next.

The hotel has always been helpful and flexible with my changing needs. I have to often extend or cancel my reservation because of work and they alwasy help me out. Thanks!!

The Regency was a delightful surprise. We were there with a tour group. Our room was very roomy, had a stove, refrig., micro, and best of all, a jacuzzi tub.

“A Great Place to Stay in Fairbanks!”

Regency Fairbanks Hotel

28 Jul 2007

Traveling again to Fairbanks, I had the good fortune to stay at the Regency! Like other people, I was expecting the worst. Quite the contrary, I found the Regency to be quite a pleasant experience!

The lobby was tastefully decorated with Alaskan touches; historic photographs and rich colors. The front desk staff were very friendly and helpful. Complimentary computers in the lobby offered easy access to e-mail and the internet. A lovely balcony off the third floor offered a relaxing area to read, have a cup of tea or coffee, or visit with friends. A couple of drawbacks: the jacuzzi tub had what appeared to be mildew growing around the edges (I informed the front desk before I checked out, so the next guest would not be offended), and the kitchenette area needed updating. I recommend that the room needs updating, but was thoroughly pleased with the amenities that were available. The dated cabinets and older appliances only added to the charm of the room (a TRULY Alaskan experience)... I believe that adding the gloss of laminate countertops and cheap cabinets would take away from the ambiance. Finally, the best part of the Regency: the BEDS! Fabulously comfortable, I had no problem falling asleep at this hotel! An A+ in my book, I will definitely stay there again!

Positives: Price, comfort, service, available internet, great balcony!

Negatives: Housekeeping needs to focus on details

Neutrals: Updating
