Stayed at the Regency Fairbanks in August 2007. With the excep-
tion of not having safe-deposit boxes at the front desk (surprising-
the staff offered to put my belongings in a lockbox but I declined)everything else about this property was superb with a considerably lower rate than the other downtown hotels. I was picked up at the
Alaska Railroad station by the hotel van and a few minutes later arrived at the hotel-consists of three floors in a residential area
approx. 12 short blocks from the heart of downtown so there no
noise issues to worry about. The lobby is actually two separate
rooms - a large sitting area by the entrance with stuffed animals
and portraits of frontier Alaska. The lobby proper has the front desk
and a computer room-library- game room in back for relaxing and catching up on E-mail. Also, a very welcome plus is a sundeck on the third floor where one can talk, relax have a drink. The rooms are among the best I've seen at any hotel - mine came with two lagre beds(among the most comfortable I have ever slept in) a work desk, bureau and a TV hanging on the wall. The furnishings were a bit retro in appearance but this is not a bad thing, especially when the room is so immaculate and comfortable. The restaurant (in the basement level but brightly decorated with aquariums on the walls;nice touch!) served excellent food - ample breakfasts and delicious dinners (had dinner there twice) at better prices than other downtown locations. The service at the restaurant, and indeed througour the entire hotel was perfect, with everyone most cour- teous and accomodating - one of the staff even volunteered to drive me to and from a couple of tourist attractions I would not have been able to reach without a car (unfortunately, the free city tourist shuttle had stopped ruuning for the season - you really need a car to reach the attractions outside the city center. The hotel's slightly out of the way location shiould not be an obstacle to staying here - the city blocks are short and taxis are reasonable should one need them. Or talk to the staff about a ride on the van;would'nt hurt! Should I ever return to Fairbanks the Regency would be my top hotel of choice. Wholeheartedly recommended!
