Luckily I bumped into the Springhill Suites by Marriott somewhere, because I think it would have been impossible to get a better deal in Fairbanks. The hotel is very centrally located (not that it would matter in a boring city like Fairbanks, but still...). Our room was very big, with two Queen size beds and one pull out coach. Also there was a little kitchenette, a desk, and a nice bathroom with the washingtable just outside. The hotelstaff is friendly and very helpful. Breakfast was included and certainly not bad for American standards (I'm European and am generally very unhappy with American food). All in all the hotel was good, but the rate of only 90 USD per night (including taxes) made it an excellent choice for us to stay!

We selected this hotel for its price and location. Fairbanks is a small city, and this hotel is right in its downtown, across from the Visitor center. Free parking is available. Staff at the front desk were not friendly, but not unfriendly either- just ok. The included continental breakfast was also just ok. Hotel provides a wake-up service if the Northern Lights are out- unfortunately we didn't get to see them during our stay... The room was comfortable with satellite TV, which was a nice touch having been without one for most of our 2 weeks in other parts of Alaska. If we were to return to the area again, we would probably go elsewhere, such as to a nearby B&B or lodge.

Good stay for two days. A downtown, high-rise hotel is not our style but given the choices, this was fine. The area has few hotels on the edge of town, likely due to winter weather and likely isolation.

Positives: Large rooms, quiet, comfortable beds, microwave and mini-fridge in room, two TVs, separate seating area and desk with cable Internet access, good continental breakfast with waffles available, sausage and egg rounds for making a breakfast sandwich with English muffins is included. Pool, hot tub, exercise room, and laundry are available and maintained. Big Ray's sport store is across the street for outfitters' clothing is very well stocked. The Fairbanks Visitor Center is across the street the other way for local information. The walking tour of downtown is not really a highlight. University of Alaska Museum is spectacular if only for the view from the hilltop. Lavelle's Bistro on the ground floor is good but a bit trendy.

Negatives: Very little parking, heat and air conditioning must be turned on (the door on the heater with a key lock is unlocked), try to avoid the tours for breakfast - they fill the place but are gone quickly, pricy.

Stayed at Springhill Suites Fairbanks on Aug. 28 & 29, 2006. Very convenient location to visitors center and downtown. Front desk staff was very customer-service oriented. Front desk staff member, Cherie, and I met on the elevator. I inquired about hotel transportation to the airport the following morning for our Drive/Fly trip to the Arctic Circle. She asked me what time we needed a wake up call and said she would make arrangements for the transportation as well. Approximately, five minutes later when I returned to our room, she called on the phone to confirm the details. With as busy as the hotel was, I cannot believe that she was able to provide such personalized service. I definitely would stay at this facility again!
