“The Princess is a nice resort - but not fantastic!”

The Princess is a nice hotel - and the food is excellent! The rooms need to be updated - the bedding, decor and bathroom is very outdated. The rest of the hotel is very nice and decorated well - it has a very Alaskan feel! The beds are not very good - they are really worn and need to be replaced. But the staff, service and food make this a worth while place to stay. They also have a great gift shop and offer a cool thing called the Northern Lights Wake Up Call during the winter months - they will call you and wake you up to go outside when the "lights are on". That was cool!

My daughter and I stayed at the Princess on the night of March 13th. We were booked there by Alaska Airlines after a cancellation of a flight . We loved this hotel!! It is beautiful!! The decor is awesome, there are so many comfy chairs and couches, nice fireplaces, and little nooks for reading or visiting with friends. The staff was very nice and helpful. The rooms were nicely decorated, the beds were very comfortable and the room was extremely clean. We were asked where in the building we wanted to stay, We wanted quite so we were given the 3rd floor( no noise from peolpe above) and at the and of the hall so very nice for us!! There was plenty of parking.Check in and check out was quick. The louge had a great rustic feel. The food was really good, the clam chowder was the best I'v had. We would definitly stay here again! We live outside of Fairbanks, so we may make a trip back soon.

“Poor service, adequate room”

Fairbanks Princess Riverside Lodge

In seventeen years of traveling in Alaska for conferences and meetings, I have never been more disappointed in a hotel stay. First of all, the location is a very expensive cab ride to every shop, restaurant or attraction in town. It cost $6 each way to go a mile down the road to a grocery store. I was glad I loaded up on fresh fruit, cheese and bread, however, because the food at this property was the worst I have ever eaten in my frequent travels around the world. Ninety percent of our banquet meals were made from processed, previously frozen or mass produced items. We literally had the same stale bread, lumpy mashed potatoes and limp vegetables at every meal. Desserts were mass produced, chemical laden, and previously frozen. You could taste the artificial flavors. Beverage service was non-existant. Our "hot" breakfast buffet was tasteless and offered no fruit or yogurt. And since when is iceberg lettuce drowing in cheap italian dressing garnished with four California olives a "Greek Salad?" All of that could have been overlooked had the service been better. There was constant noice from conference staff taking down and setting up rooms during the conference. Desk staff was clueless, unwilling to help me find a cab after a 40 minute wait from a company they called. There were no newspapers available on the property ..."uh, we got one from Anchorage today" said the gift shop gal. Room service never took our breakfast order, the sauna smelled like mold, and my requested hot tea in the bar one night arrived without any water! After I chased down a waitress, she told me the new gal "hadn't been told to put water in the teapots yet!" I would run, not walk, away from this property and stay somewhere more centrally located in Downtown Fairbanks unless you are in love with indifferent service, horrible food and average rooms. Princess should be ashamed of how they treated 200 plus Alaskans who paid good money for a four day conference.

Beautiful property and great location on the Chena River in Fairbanks. Clean and quiet room with plenty to do in and around the lodge. On site restaurant offered a quick and easy option for dining. Food was above average to very good. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Will stay here again. Rates are very reasonable as well.

“Average hotel clearly caters to obligatory cruise ship customers”

I was attending a conference being hosted at the hotel and therefore I stayed there. My first impression of the hotel was the set of big double doors that do not open automatically. Upon checking in the front desk person told me the boxes I sent were there and to call any time for delivery to my room or the conference room. It was about a 3 minute trek to get to my room in a far wing of the expansive hotel. When I finally put my bags down and took off my shoes the carpet crunched with every step. It was as if the carpet was laid over a sheet of plastic. This drove me crazy for four days.

The lighting in the room was very inadequate, the water pressure was marginal, the bed was old and not comfortable, and the bedding was old and of average quality. The heater blew the hot air into the curtain and was not deflected into the room. The cleaning crew must be rushed because they do not seem to vacuum. Every day I saw the remnants of nail clippings on the carpet that were not mine. The restaurant was nice, but very over priced. Room service had reasonable breakfast rates and selection. The service was right on time and the man was very friendly. This was good since the room didn't have a fridge (or microwave) so I could buy my healthy food for breakfast.

My overall impression is that this hotel caters to the cruise ship passengers that come up north on the Princess busses and don't really have any other option of a room. I feel sorry for them.

The best thing I can say is that the staff was very accommodating any time I had a concern or needed help with something and that the wireless internet signal was strong and free. Good thing they have plug-ins for cars since it was below zero every night.
