Nice spot, with plenty of room. Clean, well appointed. Big, big problem, however, with our 3rd floor room overlooking the parking lot. Nonstop tour buses and support vehicles loaded and unloaded luggage and tour groups from early in the morning until close to 11 pm. This made opening the windows or using the balcony not feasible. As fresh air is important to me, I had to trade off excessive noise and some fumes if I wanted some.

Every person at the Sophie was a delight. The front desk staff were always friendly and as accomidating as they could be. There were always a few people at the front desk so I rarely had to wait at all. All you have to do is ask and they always have a new adventure. I was a little late for the dogsledding, but they pointed me to a wonderful hotspring and an ice festival that I thought were amazing.

There were only two sets of laundry machines($6/load) for the guest laundry, but they were never full. I never had to wait at all, and every room in the hotel was booked all month.

The most remarkable was the efficency of the maid service. Every single day they cleaned the room to make it look just as it did when I checked in. When one person checked out, I happened to walk past their room to see them steam cleaning the back side of the couch. That struck me as incredible. I would never think to clean there.

Always clean, always friendly, always warm. A great place to stay!

I found this hotel based on reviews from this site. This is a comfortable and roomy hotel. The suites are nice but not considered luxurious. The service is friendly and the atmosphere is comfortable. I ordered food from the restaraunt at the bar and it arrived in a timely manner and was pretty good. Joe, the bartender, made excellent recommendations on some of the local things to not miss such as the Chenega Hot Springs. The hotel is close to the airport and is easy to find and it is easy to navigate around from there.

Husband returned from a LONG tour in the middle east and we stayed for 2 nights in their Jacuzzi Suite. GREAT color scheme in the room, awesome service, layout of the room allowed for me to work in/near the kitchen area so to keep work out of the sleeping area, enjoyed having a drink in the upstairs lounge and calling it a night in the tub. Would most definitely stay there again!
