The hotel looks like converted apartments or a former retirement apartment complex. I asked the front desk person about the hotel. I was told that it was built for the Alaska pipeline workers but it was not completed by the time the pipeline was finished. It has always been a hotel, not apartments converted to hotel rooms. My husband and I spent one night here. The room was like a small apartment: Full kitchen (refrigerator, microwave, toaster, oven/stove), separate living room and bedroom. The room was clean and spacious. The flowers in front of the hotel are incredible! Amazing bursts of colors from a numerous variety of flowers. Definitely worth taking pictures. We ate at the hotel restaurant, Zack's. The food was very good and worth a visit. The downside to Sophie Station is that it is located near the Fairbanks airport and you can hear a lot of plane traffic. Even though it is set back from a busy street (University Avenue), you can still hear some of the road traffic. We discovered a little cafe just down the street, Sam's Sourdough Cafe, which appeared to be frequented by the locals. They serve breakfast all day and the food is good.
