“The Suite was The Best”

Dale and Jo View Suites

9 Jul 2008

This is a wonderful well-run Alaskan Bed and Breakfast. We were there just this past June and the experience was terrific. We stayed in the 2 bedroom, 2 bath Suite and it was far more than what we had expected. The location could not be any more superb, quick drive to downtown, the airport and the University of Alaska. The inn keepers were wonderful, you can tell that they really love what they do. The breakfast was delicious and more than amble. The rooms are very spacious, well decorated and very quiet. This is definitely a place that we will visit again.

“Not so great”

Dale and Jo View Suites

9 Jul 2008

We stayed at Dale and Jo View Suites for 1 night and our experience was not so pleasant.
We read all the reviews about this place and based on that we booked a suite but we were very disappointed by the service. We stayed at this place with our 2 young children (5 and 10 year old). We reached quite late in the evening and so our kids were tired. They just had some milk at night before going to bed, which Ms. Jo had kept in the refrigerator for breakfast for next day morning. When I called her in the morning around 8.45 AM she was quite agitated by my call because she was still on bed and when I requested some extra milk for the kids for breakfast she just refused to give! We stayed at 5 different hotels including one other B&B in Alaska but I never had this experience. I was very angry with her attitude. She said that the milk was for next day morning breakfast and not for previous night! I wasn’t asking her for a GALLON of milk but just 2 cups!

The breakfast quantity was not enough. There were 2 boiled eggs, 1 English Biscuit (with no butter/Jelly) and a fruit cup which had 3 slices of CANNED Peach with few blue berries on top! No fresh fruit. We couldn’t even have Coffee in the morning since we didn’t have milk (which we use as creamer). My kids ate DRY cereal in the morning! Would any mom be happy with this kind of place for her kids?

We were expecting a warm and comfortable place to stay but we were very disappointed. Others may have had a good experience but I guess we were not so lucky. I would not recommend this place to anyone especially with kids.

The place is very clean and the view is nice but it would have been great if they had good service.

Response to ‘Houstonssun’ Review of Dale and Jo View Suites Fairbanks Alaska

We listen carefully to all guest feedback and carefully evaluate our service. The mother who wrote that she was disappointed with our service was also forth coming to me in acknowledging that her family ate our breakfast provisions for both their evening and morning meal. However they needed a little more to make it stretch better for the two meals.

The family guest party of 2 adults and 2 children arrived at 7:00 pm this July. When I introduced the family to their suite, I verified that their breakfast choices, which were now in their refrigerator, were what they wished. The parents made no additional breakfast requests, at this time. I was asked to recommend a good place for dinner, which I did.

Later that evening, I visited the family when I returned a load of laundry I had washed and folded for them. They had chosen not to go out to dinner. I noticed that one child was eating his breakfast meal for his dinner.

We have an adult breakfast menu with 13 entrees which vary from light to hearty. For children, we simply ask parents what they want us to provide. They can request anything. The parents requested cereal only for their two children. We provided the specific cereal they requested with a full quart of milk. We also included, without being asked, fruit cups of peaches, fresh blueberries and fresh strawberries for each child. In addition we provided 4 other cereal choices for the children. The children were given a special child’s table and safety dishes. Each parent received the menu order they had requested. The father selected from our menu a light breakfast order of boiled eggs, side of fruit, and an English muffin. The mother selected a homemade vegetable quiche with side of fruit. Coffee, tea and cream was in the refrigerator, along with butter and jams.

We are one of the few accommodations that do not do a sit down breakfast, but instead offer our guests a menu and place their breakfast in a refrigerator for them to have at whatever time they wish. When the mom called me, I did try diplomatically to explain that the breakfast provisions we gave were for one meal, and not for both an evening and morning meal.

My wife and I stayed in the large downstairs suite this past June and could not have happier with our stay. Both Dale and Jo were incredibly friendly and helpful in and getting us situated. The rooms were simply delightful, with some of the nicest decorating/ linens we've seen in any of our travels. Topped off by fantastic breakfast service and great advice about getting around Fairbanks, we would stay with Dale and Jo again in a heartbeat.

“Perfect in Every Way”

Dale and Jo View Suites

3 Jul 2008

So many good things have already been written about this Inn that adding anything new is seemingly impossible so apologies if this sounds like a re-hash of all that has gone before.

Our holiday in Alaska ended in Fairbanks. After having read so many wonderful reviews about this Inn we had saved it for the last few nights of our trip to Alaska. It was almost a year in the planning and we had high hopes for Dale and Jo View Suites. Having looked forward to it for a loooong time.

We arrived at the Inn at 10:00 pm after being on the road most of the day traveling from Anchorage. Jo greeted us at our car with a warm smile which made us feel very welcomed. More like we where visiting family, than meeting someone for the first time. We where helped with our baggage and taken up to our room, (The Spa Room).

We found this room to be larger than most, very clean, nicely appointed with all we could want for the next few days. The large soaking tub was heaven and the bed was divine and during our time there gave us the best sleep we have ever had. Good quality toiletries, chocolates on the bed added to the feel of a quality establishment.

Our breakfasts each morning was divine and we so loved being able to take it up to our room where we could enjoy the beauty of our surroundings. We always felt each morning more than a little full! Jo was a wealth of information and knowledge and went out of her way to help us plan places to go visit and what was good and not so good. Without her input we may not have found some of the very beautiful spots we visited.

We had a mixture of weather during our stay - temps in the low 50s followed by a mini-heatwave with temps in the upper 70s - but the freedom we had in the house, the hospitality, and our own lovely room meant that whatever the weather we were well provided for whenever we weren't out and about.

The Inn is perfectly situated on the side of a mountain on the West side of Fairbanks. The peace and quiet of our surroundings was almost deafening. Very close to the airport, art galleries, restaurants and to downtown. The views of the Alaskan Range and the Chena and Tanana Rivers is unobstructed and endless. This would be a perfect Inn to stay at if your interested in seeing the Northern Lights in the winter. In fact we are already working to make plans to go back in the winter to do just that. We where also impressed at how quiet the Inn is in the evenings and at night. During our stay the Inn was fully booked, but you would have thought we where the only ones there.

I can really only sum up by saying that this holiday is the best I've ever had and I would recommend this Inn without reservation and can not wait to return. The Inn felt like our home away from home and made our vacation time in Fairbanks absolutely fantastic.

Yes there are many choices of places to stay in Fairbanks, but I doubt few, if any, are as special as Dale and Jo View Suites.
