On most of our recent three-week trip through Alaska, my wife and I drove a rented car and stayed in B & B's. Our northernmost stop was Fairbanks, where we stayed at "A Moose in the Garden," which I had picked out for its online description. Initially concerned that it was a few miles from town, we soon realized that the location was perfect, up on a hill in a quiet area, with (on a clear day) a view of Denali 100 miles away. The drive into town was simple. Kathy could not have been more warm and welcoming. In all B & B's you feel that you are in someone's home. Here we felt like family. We stayed upstairs in the Northern Lights room, a wonderful open space in this impressive log home. All the comforts of home. (More than in ours - the room includes a Jacuzzi!) Breakfasts were, needless to say, varied and delicious, served family style. I would certainly recommend "A Moose in the Garden" to anyone looking for a welcoming B & B in Fairbanks.
