“Worst Stay Ever!!”

Seven Gables Inn

This place should not be called a B & B. In fact, it shouldn't even be in operation. I booked a "suite" which actually consisted of just a bedroom and attached bath. I was OK with that, but the condition of the room was really bad. The carpet was stained and dirty. The wall by the bed had coffee stains all over it. The bathroom floor was sticky throughout our entire stay. The towels were threadbare with strings hanging off of them. There was no water pressure.
Breakfast was skimpy and not good. The breakfast was served cold. Even things like crepes and oatmeal were cold. The breakfast was so skimpy and "weird" that my husband resorted to cold cereal. There were two girls serving who spoke very little English and could not communicate well. I had the strong feeling that the breakfast was prepared the day before and the girls were just hired to serve so that the owner did not have to be bothered.
We never met the owner. Upon arrival, our money was collected by the bookkeeper (who was very friendly). But we did not meet the owners at all through our 3 day stay. We are not "needy" guests, but part of the charm of a B & B is meeting the owners and other guests and finding out a little about the location.
The condition of the property was filthy. I walked into the garage looking for the laundry facilities and literally could not walk through because of all of the clutter and debris in the garage. When I did find the laundry facilities, the area was so filthy that I would not do my laundry there.
Most concerning was that one night the fire alarm rang for 20 min. No one came to investigate. The guests finally walked around and checked the alarms to make sure that there was no fire. Obviously, we did not sleep the rest of that night!
I am sorry for the long rant, but I really want to save others from staying at this horrible place.

We never actually stayed at the 7 Gables because when we got there, the owner diverted us to another of his properties at a different location. We had reserved a two-room suite with king bed, jacuzzi, etc. What we found at the other location was something completely different - a run-down little building in an overgrown yard next to a rusted out mobile home. Inside, the cramped unit reeked of cigarette smoke, had filthy carpet, mismatched furniture, and sloppily-made beds. The floor plan was completely different from the unit we had reserved. We called him immediately and told him we would not accept the unit.

In replay, he told us matter of factly that we'd have trouble finding anything else as it was already after 6:00 p.m. Then he told us he had given away our reservation (made 6 months earlier) to another customer (the U.S. military) who was willing to pay him a lot more per unit. When we objected, he said, "Money talks!"

We have travelled a great deal and had never before had our reservation given away. We have never encountered an owner who was so blatantly unethical in his dealings with customers. We advise that travellers avoid this place at all cost.

West Cottage is not fit to stay in. We checked out as soon as we looked over the building, stairs unsafe and building was a fire trap. Junk all over the yard. We were booked to stay 3 nights but the owner would only refund us two.

“Lacking customer service”

Seven Gables Inn

The Inn had country charm and the room decorated nicely and comfortable. The Innkeepers did not have warmth and customer attention. Neither did our shower on either morning of our stay...first day no water..as maintenance was working on the boiler then only cold the second day. We were offered a shower in another spare room, but this inconvenience to us was not acknowledged. One reply was they would stop the morning dishes, and that would put them behind!
I did get a break on the room rate upon checkout, but only with my asking, noting it was a jacuzzi room, and we had no option to use that either.
Breakfast was hurried with scanty amounts. Community access computer was a nice amenity.

Although the arcitechture is certainly unusual and the outside a little messy we had a fine night at this B&B. The room was comfortable and clean. Breakfast was good and plentiful. the proprietors were friendly and helpful. It has a tv in the room bigger than 13" and computer access for the guests. Best of all it was very inexpensive for Alaska.
