We just returned from a stay at the 7 Gables B and B. This is a non-hosted B and B. When we arrived the note on the door said to wander around the house and look for your name on the room door. It was a little odd. We moved our things in and didn't see anyone for several hours. We only saw the owner for a few minutes when he took our credit card. You have access to the entire home, kitchen, e-mail, etc. I travelled with my parents. My room was very nice and had a connecting bathroom, their room was pretty small and they had to go out of the room to the bathroom. There were two other buildings that were being worked on that belonged to the same group. It looked like a motel in the middle of a neighborhood. The breakfasts were out of this world. They were unique in that they chose a different country each day. It was absolutely wonderful! Bananna Crepes, fruit pizza, little muffins. They also had the basic toast and cereal. Overall, this was an acceptable B and B, but it's not the typical- it's more like a hotel without a front desk.

The 1 bedroom suite came complete with a 2 person jacuzzi tub and a fireplace. However... I wouldn't recommend this as a romantic destination. The "suite" felt very much like an apartment and the decor was a little, well, cheap. My husband & I alternated beds with my father between the bedroom & the queen pull-out, my son stayed in the cot. The pull-out was so uncomfortable and the kept collapsing at the corners. It was acceptable for us but I would have been disappointed if I had just gone there with my husband. There are a few little touches that would have made our stay nicer-- 2-ply toilet paper, decent towels and a better sofabed. I had a good time though so I don't want this review to be entirely full of complaints. The suite had a kitchen complete with dishes, teas, maybe coffee (didn't check). My 6 year old loved the jacuzzi tub and breakfast was decent. The coffee though, was awesome. After staying up all night looking for the Aurora Borealis- good, strong french pressed coffee was a welcome site.

Overall, decent place but 1-ply tp won't get an "above-average" vote from me.

“Great place to stay”

I have stayed here probably over 65 times in the past 5 years as I
travel on business. The owners are very accomadating and friendly. The
breakfasts are usually excellent, however there have been a few (out of
over 65) that were unique, but still very tasty. ie:scotch eggs.
The rooms are clean, comfortable and tastfully decorated. You do not feel as though you are staying in a cookie cutter hotel chain with plastic linen and endless repitition. The main house is the most comfortable simply because that is where you will have breakfast.
Considering this is Fairbanks and the climate is extreme to say the least (-65 to over 90 in the summer) the facilities are exceptional. The dining area would do better with round tables but how thin do you want to split hairs?
One of my favorite places to stay!!

“Dread and Dreckfast”

Seven Gables B&B Fairbanks, AlaskaWhile our basement apartment in this converted frat house was relatively clean, we'd never return. The breakfast was horrifying, served in a room only nurse Rachette would love. The water smells strongly of sulphur and was undrinkable. The adjacent guest buildings look like firetraps. Don't believe the ads. Fear the owner's wierd laugh and stay waay away.
