A Taste of Alaska lodge was recommended to me from a dog musher in Fairbanks. I told her that I wanted to stay in an "Alaskan" place, and she told me about A Taste of Alaska Lodge. When I travel I like to avoid the chains and stay in places that complement the destination. Debbie Eberhardt is the proprietor of the lodge and the land has been in the Eberhardt family since they homesteaded the area years ago. Her husband built the lodge. They are both friendly and willing to offer suggestions on what to do while in town, good places to eat, and great places to see the Northern Lights (one of the best Aurora's I've seen in my life was 150 feet from my room at their lodge), one of Fairbanks's biggest attractions during the winter months. The rooms are very clean, the breakfast Debbie makes guests each morning is excellent, and the views of the Alaska Range and Denali are right out your window (on a clear day).

I was amazed that such a quality place was right here in Alaska. When we drove up, we looking into the spacious, beautiful mountains of the Alaska Range directly in front of us. The tall snow capped mountains will take your breath away any time of the year. The staff was professional and really provided a rare insight into the mystic land of the last frontier. Rivers and forrests are all across the valley and on the far side is the awesome Alaska Range. There is a bonus. In the dead of winter you have a front row seat for the Northern Lights. All of this only a short drive from downtown Fairbanks. We are greatful the staff and owners for sharing this very special place with fellow alaskans and the world.
