Even though the weather outside was cold, the temperature inside the Minnie Street B & B was very warm and friendly. Marnie takes you in and makes you feel at home. The accomodations are lovely , clean and comfortable. The Homedics sounds options in the room were a very nice touch. The selection of body washes and body sprays in the bathroom were a surprise. Access to hot beverages all day and night was a real plus. We stayed for five days and never had the same breakfast twice. The food was delicious and was topped off with several unique and original recipes from Marnie's kitchen. Her mixed fruit syrup for pancakes was my favorite. In addtition to the wonderful lodging and food, Marnie and Lambert were very helpful in offering ideas for things to do and see in the area. They are willing to book your activities ahead of time if you wish. They were right-on in their recommendations for places to eat dinner. Our stay at the Minnie Street B & B enhanced our trip to Fairbanks and will be the place we stay when we return.
My girlfriend and I stayed at the MInnie Street Bed and Breakfast on January 21. We liked this place so much we came back and stayed again on January 23. This time of year is certainly not high tourist season, in fact we found several other local bed and breakfasts closed until May, but we were warmly welcomed at MInnie Street.
The suite was very impressive, with a jacuzzi, full kitchen, separate living room and laundry facilities. Everything was extremely clean and tidy. The hosts were most friendly, helpful and accommodating, considering we just showed up with no reservations. They were full of local information, where the best places for dinner were, what to see in the area, etc. The price was very reasonable too, all things considered.
My girlfriend and I would not hesitate to stay in this wonderful B&B for one second, in fact we are planning to return in the summer, and will most certainly be staying here again.
We came out of the bush early and she let us in early so we could clean up. The ladies were MOST grateful. The rooms were LOVELY, clean and VERY comfortable beds.
As a former resident of Fairbanks I absolutely LOVEd the place, the location and the hostess. It was the PERFECT place fromw hich to venture forth and see Interior Alaska.
DO NOT miss the Turtle Club for supper and DO order the Prime Rib! This place has been in business for nearly 40 years and is WONDERFUL!
We stayed at the MSBB for 2 nights en route to Denali National Park. We were looking for a place close to the downtown area that offered easy access to the railroad depot, since we were not renting a car. Although few rooms were available in Fairbanks when we booked, the MSBB seemed a reasonable choice, advertising itself as being "1 1/2 blocks away from the railroad depot."
It turns out that this claim was true until May of last year (2005). The depot is now 1 1/2 MILES away. No one at MMSB bothered to change this key information on its website until the past couple of weeks (June/July 2006), and no one mentioned it when we called to reserve our room.
Which brings me to our next beef. For car-less travelers there are 3 major motorized ways of traveling about Fairbanks: the bus, taxis, and private shuttle services (e.g., Alpenglow). The MSBB proprietors will not tell you about the latter, even though they are far less expensive than taxis and arrive within minutes, due to disputes about commissions (the MSBB wants a 20% take, so we were told). This fundamental omission was mean-spirited and are grateful to our fellow travellers for cluing us into this.
The bed is the best part of the MSBB -- firm, warm, and clean. Noise is almost absent. They will allow you to check your email and to do your laundry (the latter for a reasonable fee). The breakfasts were unimpressive but certainly edible. Avoid the "bag-breakfast" (one that they'll pack for you to take with you) as it contains lots of processed junk.
