When we arrived at Fairbanks by train and discovered that the B&B that we had planned to stay at had cancelled out on us, we were rather distressed. However, thanks to some very helpful Alaska Railroad employees and the manager of this Best Western, we were able to get into the last available room. They even covered the cost of our taxi to get there from the station! They were also very helpful in shuttling us to pick up our rental car the next day near the airport. Although the service was good, the rooms were rather basic and the location was not in the best part of town. Also, the hotel’s restaurant was not very good. However, they do have free wireless internet and we were able to use their laundry facilities.

We enjoy staying in Best Western hotels all over the country and I would have to say this is the worst one that we have come across. The halls and floors creak like an old pirate ship, the traffic noise from the street in unbelievably loud, and the television reception was terrible. It was 4:30 P.M when we requested another room but they said the hotel was full. I can only assume that the other guests arrived on foot because the parking lot was almost empty.
On the plus side, there was an air conditioner in the room, which is unique in Alaska. I was not expecting a five star hotel, but for $140 I would have liked more.

Downstairs rooms are very nice and cozy. Upstairs, "smoking" rooms, not much to speak about.
Felix Cookhouse, at this location, is excellent - loved their halibut fish & chips, but meals were always good, service good, and atmosphere very nice. Prices were extremely reasonable. Facilities like laundry, and free airport van, made this hotel very user-friendly.
Very clean, walking distance to public bus and downtown area (about 4 blocks). Fairbanks public transport is a bit scimpy but if you time it right you can catch the North Pole bus or the bus to downtown right outside the hotel. Call the transit center for times. Taxis are expensive, but not all cabs charge the same fee, and deals can be brokered.
I stayed from Feb 20th - March 4th and had a blast!

“Quite Decent”

While not located in a really 'scenic' part of town, Best Western Fairbanks was a good choice for us. We stayed 2 nights.
We got a decent meal at a good price at Felix's (located in the building) and the Hot Licks handmade icecream (also in building) was a fun treat. :)
The rooms were clean and well-stocked. There was LOTS of traffic - this was a busy hotel - but the staff managed to take care of us nicely at the front desk. We had a street-side 1st floor room but there was very little road noise and most guest noise subsided at 10pm so we slept well.
One BIG plus: handicap access! One of our group has mild palsy and found the handicap rooms very accessible and bathrooms easy to use. That puts my review at 'above average' since this courtesy isn't often available. Otherwise it's not fancy but it has most everything you will need. Prices for rooms in Fairbanks are a bit high so it may not be as luxurious as the price may suggest but it makes up for 'charm' with perfect utility.

“Very Nice”

Best Western Fairbanks Inn

I agree that this hotel may have been a victim of some unfair reviews based on peoples location to one another rather than the hotel itself. The hotel is a very busy place as it is a starting, ending and mid point for many people on Cruise Tours. As one of those people, we were mid-way through our tour when we stayed at the Westmark Fairbanks.
When we arrived the lobby was very busy and it took about 5 minutes for our keys to be ready. However the staff handled it very well and had us all on our way in no time.
Our room was very nice. The beds were some of the most comfortable mattresses I have slept on through this whole tour. The room was spotless. The bath was charming with wood closet doors and tile. It was a shame we were only there one short night because we felt we didn't really get a chance to enjoy the room.
The hotel was within walking distance to many restaurants and there was a restaurant in the lobby.
There was an amazing weight room, laundry facilities, and payphone area. A nice gift shop (although rather pricey) and a coffee shop. The lobby is large and there is plenty of room to sit and read the paper and enjoy a cup of coffee in the morning if you have time.
This was one of the nicer hotels on our tour. Although the lobby can be busy, the staff handled it well and the rooms were quiet.
