If you come to Fairbanks to see the Ice Sculpture World Championship, stay at the Comfort Inn because it is right next door and within walking distance. It's a few miles from the airport and the train station and they have shuttle service to both. Downtown is a few miles away also. We got a car because we wanted to drive up in the hills to see the Aurora Borealis and to North Pole Alaska to see the tourist stuff and to see Fairbanks downtown including the cute little Fairbanks community and musher museum on 5th street and Cushman. You can probably get transportation to each of these if you don't want to get a car. We saw a busload of people waiting at our northern lights viewing spot at midnight.
The motel is a little worn, but the rooms are larger than normal, the beds were comfortable and there is a small refrigerator, microwave and coffee maker in each room. The breakfast is the standard waffles and bagels fare.
The ice sculptures are absolutely unbelievable!! If you come the week after the Iditarod start in Anchorage you can see the completed single-block scultures and see the multi-block teams carving their entries.

We stayed at the Comfort Inn in Fairbanks, Alaska for 2 nights in June 2007. Overall we enjoyed the stay. The rooms were average, nothing was wrong with them, but there also wasn't anything fantastic about them. The only complaint we had was that the employees were not very friendly or helpful. The desk attendant we first contacted gave us entirely wrong directions to the hotel, and the woman attending the continental breakfast in the morning was rather reluctant to refill food for example when the coffee and orange juice were gone. The facilities however were very suitable. It was nice to have a continental breakfast when the meals in Alaska are so expensive. Overall we had a pleasant stay, it was a good value for the money and we would stay there again.

“Moose Sighting!”

Stayed at the Comfort Inn in Fairbanks for 3 days in early August. Room was clean (the housekeeper did not clean it one day, but left us clean towels). It is in a wooded setting off the main roads in Fairbanks, gives you more that outdoorsy feel. The continental breakfast was good, had biscuits and gravy & homemade waffles. Did not use the pool, but it looked clean. The best part for us was the moose sighting. Apparently a female moose hangs around the woods surrounding the property. So look out, she may be lurking about! Overall, we would stay here again should we get back to Fairbanks.

We stayed at Comfort Inn, Fairbanks mid-March during a weekend getaway primarily to see the World Ice Sculpture competition. We usually prefer Comfort Inns (and LaQuinta, Sleep Inn, etc.) and so when I found this place online and read the great reviews I naturally hopped on it.

The location is nice and quiet, away from the train tracks, etc. as noted, however we were unfortunate enough to be put in a room next to some drunken buffoons whose idea of entertainment was performing bodily functions at maximum volume and then laughing at an even greater volume.

I called the front desk asking to be moved, and the boy curtly informed me he had no other vacancies. I told him of the situation and asked him to request our neanderthal neighbors to quiet down. Oops. Apparently this was taken as a personal challenge by our testosterone-toxic hallmates to see if they could become even more obnoxious.

After another half hour of this (did I mention it was 2AM) I'd had enough and went downstairs to ask the boy if there was another room. He very rudely grabbed his computer monitor, spun it around 180 degrees and slammed it down on the countertop in front of me, jabbing his finger at it and in a comically hostile manner for one so unimpressively built and postured, exclaimed "Look! No rooms!"

I resisted the urge to say or do anything at this point beyond simply informing him that we were checking out and that we would try our luck elsewhere, and per Comfort Inn's policy I expect no charge for our inconvenvience.

We went down the road to Pike's Landing, found a far better room for the same amount of money and had a wonderful remainder of our trip.

Whether this is standard customer service for this particular branch, or if the lad simply needed a good switching I can't say, but I will never again consider Comfort Inn Fairbanks.

This hotel is out of the way, but will provide a shuttle to train station and airport. The room was a room and a half with ample space for at least 4 people if the pull-ou sofa is used. The bed was huge. Very clean and neat with a mini-frig, microwave, and coffee-maker.

Pioneer Park recreation/re-creation area with the Salmon Bake was within a less than 10 minute walk down a nice path and over a bridge over the Chena River. I heard talk of a moose often seen in the area and although I did not see the moose, one evening I certainly saw its droppings!

The breakfast area is clean and kept neat and the food was good and nourishing. The sausage gravy and biscuits was outstanding, along with the make-your-own waffles.

I found a shuttle company, Alpenglow, who provided transportation both in-town and around the area. This helped a great deal.
