My son suggested that we go to Fonda when I mentioned that I enjoyed Mexican food, but so much of it was cloned. It turned out to be the dining highlight of a week long trip to NYC. To start with, it's small. Don't even think about going without reservations. Only 11 tables plus bar seating, and most of the tables are for two.
Loved everything about it. The intimate atmosphere, the decor, and most of all, the food. We had a couple of spectacular appetizers; duck quesadillas and a sausage and cheese queso. For an entrée I had skirt steak with mushrooms. I can’t think of enough good words to describe it. The best skirt steak I’ve ever had. Everyone at the table got something different – and no one was willing to share. That tells you something. BTW, they also make a really good classic margarita.
I get to NY about once a year. Fonda will be on the agenda whenever I go.
