My companion and I could not have been more pleased with our accommodations at the Loralie. We usually stay at a friend's place in Manhattan, but that didn't pan out this year. My companion searched online and came across the Loralie, and it turned out to be a serendipitous discovery. It turned out to be far nicer than we expected--and we had high expectations to begin with. Robert , one of the owners, could not have been friendlier and more helpful. He is a genuinely nice person who wants all of his guests to enjoy their stay!

Our rooms and private bathroom were clean and very tastefully decorated. The Loralei is located in a safe and stable neighborhood with great restaurants within easy walking distance. It's also conveniently located to the subway that will get you to Manhattan within a half hour. The Continental breakfasts were a great way to start the day, with cereal, breads, fresh fruit, yogurt, juice. . . .

I recommend the Loralei without reservation, and I have no doubt that it will be our first choice when staying with friends in the city is not an option. You couldn't find anything nearly as clean, nice and safe as the Loralei for the price in Manhattan! Plus, the icing on the cake was that staying at the Loralei enabled me to discover Brooklyn, and I truly enjoyed it. We found several excellent restaurants near the Loralie, and at prices far cheaper than what you'd pay at similar establishments in Manhattan. The whole neighborhood is quite walkable--I can't wait to return!

My friend and I meet every year around the holidays for sightseeing and theatre/opera. I live in Queens, so we usually stay in Manhattan. This year, we couldn't find anything decent, so I threw caution to the wind, looked around, and found a bed and breakfast in Brooklyn, of all places!

Well, we hit the jackpot here.

Reviews at tripadvisor have been almost completely positive, and I'll add my own here: we had a fantastic time!

The property, from 1904, has been lovingly restored and the common rooms on the first floor are warm and inviting.

Our room (or rooms, since we had a smaller sitting room as well) was lovely and well- appointed with no frillies or doilies to be seen. The bed was comfortable and there was PLENTY of drawer/closet space.

Robert could not have been lovelier or more accommodating. I emailed to see if we could arrive earlier than the stated time and Robert had no problems with that....we were able to check in at two o'clock, giving us time to freshen up before dinner and the opera.

Breakfast was taken at our leisure and Robert made sure the 'fridge was well stocked. It was continental, yes, but with a capital "C"! There was fresh fruit, cheese, cereals, danishes, etc. Everything needed to jump start a busy day.

Robert was around for directions and dining recommendations, as well as just shooting the breeze during breakfast. We even ran into him and Lance at the movies in Manhattan on Sunday--small world!

Travel time to Manhattan was only thirty minutes or so, and the neighborhood was safe whether during the day or late at night.

It was everything we could've hoped for and often more. Robert and Lance were accommodating and gracious, and the house was just terrific. I highly recommend a stay here if New York is too expensive or crowded. It serves as a reminder that there's more to New York City than just Manhattan!!

I hope we'll get the chance to stay again NEXT year!

It was so nice to come "home" to the Loralei after the hustle of Manhattan to recharge. The beds were very comfortable and everything was clean. Robert is an amazing person who made us feel like family. He was helpful in every aspect of our stay. The breakfasts were delicious, varied and always included fresh fruit and delicious coffee. We will certainly stay there again and would highly recommend the Loralei to anyone visiting New York.

The innkeeper contacted us before we arrived with helpful information on directions from LaGuardia. He greeted us at the door with a subway map and a tour of the beautifully updated Victorian home. Our party of 3 stayed for four nights and we will be back. The coffee was rich and the continental breakfast perfect. It was a short walk to the Newkirk subway stop (B & Q lines). On our last day, the innkeeper arranged for a car to pick us up for the return flight to LGA. In summary, the property was great, but the level of service was unprecedented in my many years of world travel.
