if you are going to stay in brooklyn, this is a fine b&b to stay at. located a short walk from the Q subway, it is convenient to get to and from. the two rooms are up on the top floor and are roomy enough (2 adults+13 year old) and very quiet. breakfast is continental, but more than enough variety (and quantity) for anyone and the coffee was good and endless.

internet service was great, entry was easy (our own keys). information on sites, routes and history was forthcoming from sue and mike.

do note that you are in a quiet brooklyn neighborhood-- not surrounded by bars, over priced eateries and endless bustle-- for some, including our family, that was a good thing. all those things were just minutes away via the subway, cabs or car services. prospect park is a 10 minute walk through this lovely area. manhattan (mid-town) was about a 45 minute subway ride on the Q-- $2 door to door.

If you want to make a New York experience offside the well-known tourist paths, than you are right at Rugby Gardens. Here you get inside information directly from the welcoming and friendly hosts Sue und Michael, about the Brooklyn neighbourhood and Manhattan as well. You live in the middle of Brooklyn and it is very interesting to see New York City from another perspective than only tourist hot spots. The House is furnished nicely and tasteful. Despite our short stay of only two nights, we felt like home. The huge breakfast offers a great variety and you will never miss anything. During our two week trip in the U. S. we never found a better breakfast. If we visit New York again, we will try to stay at Rugby Gardens.

“Weekend in New York”

Innkeepers were interesting and friendly. Large and marvelous breakfasts. Charming furnishings.. Great neighborhood near the subway. (We took the car into Manhattan. Not really an easy thing to do.) The only downside is a shared bathroom. We would definitely return.

“Rugby Gardens - A+ for comfort and a warm welcome”

We stayed at Rugby Gardens for 11 days and could not have been happier
with our stay. Sue & Michael are fantastic hosts, warm and friendly with lots of great New York knowledge to help travellers like us.

The room we stayed in was very comfortable. It was generous in size, with a queen sized bed perfect for taller folks like us and a lovely outlook into a leafy quiet suburban streetscape of old homes and generous gardens. The shared bathroom was always clean and with only two guest rooms, accessing the bathroom was never a problem.

Breakfast was a treat with a wide range of options including cereal, beautiful fresh bread, fruit, muffins and sweet breads, cheese and yoghurt. Sue & Michael were very accommodating of my dietary requirement, I'm a vegetarian, and went the extra mile to find out if there was anything they could offer me beyond the plethora of breakfast options.

There are two subway stops within a 5 to 10 minute walk of Rugby Gardens, depending on which way you decide to walk and accessing Manhattan at all hours is extremely straightforward.

Nearby Cortelyou Rd offered great dinner options, we couldn't stay away from Picket Fence which offers fantastic meals at really reasonable prices and an interesting wine list as well.

This lovely 100 year old home is sure to offer a comfortable stay. There are a couple of staircases that guest will have to use to reach the bedrooms, so if stairs are a problem for you this might not be the place for you.

We recommend Rugby Gardens to anyone who appreciates a more intimate and personalised slice of New York accommodation. This Bed & Breakfast
offers excellent service and all the comforts of home.

Rugby Gardens

My girlfriend is from Japan and this was her first trip to NYC. She was deeply fascinated by the nice surroundings of Rugby Gardens and proximity to the city. The hosts are excellent and their hospitality made us feel at home right away, catering to all our needs and giving us all sorts of pointers as to where to go and what to do. If i were to go back I would certainly stay with them again!

Thanks again for the wonderful memory!
