I have stayed at this hotel 3 times. I am having trouble understanding the negative reviews. I grew up with cows in my back yard so I am not an urban expert, but this is not a really bad part of town. On the other hand, it is in Brooklyn so you have to use some amount of street smarts. Don't go walking around at night by yourself. Don't go into the public housing complexes that are nearby. Don't gawk at people and buildings like you are in a museum. When I was there 6 or 7 people who were staying in the hotel plus my friends and I were hanging around outside at the picnic tables in front of the hotel enjoying the nice weather at about 10pm. No one bothered us. The hotel is clean. They offer a decent free breakfast. Their prices are much lower than a Manhattan hotel. It is close to two really cool neighborhoods in Brooklyn--Park Slope and Boreum Hill. It is not "the city"...it is Brooklyn and it is a great experience.

Even by the comfort inn standards, this place was horrible. Naturally there were some booking problems (their on-line system wasn't functioning, big hassle), but ignoring that whole mess, and ignoring that the location is in a shady part of Carrol Gardens/Red Hook (about 20 min in any direction to anywhere remotely comfortable in Brooklyn), when we checked out our bathroom mirror, the following was written in huge block letters 'suck my c#ck.' (expletive deleted). Were the hotel properly cleaned, this would not have been an issue (though it's also entirely possible that this was a personal message from the hotel staff). Complaints of this issue were not rectified (no one even came to clean it up), no apologies (except from their corporate office about 8 weeks later) and all in all, the comfort inn did nothing to redeem themselves.

We were disgusted less by the message and more by the way they dealt with the situation -- their response was essentially akin to the above mentioned proposition.

This hotel should be name "UNcomfort Inn".
This hotel is lack of parking space and it is in a bad location.
The noise in the basement is horrible.
Don't walk on the street. Make sure you have a car or just catch a taxi for drop off.
The front desk staffs are not helpful.
It's the worst hotel I've ever stayed.
I strongly not recommend anyone to stay in this hotel.
You will be far better off somewhere else.
It will ruin your vacation.

“very scary”

Our family was not prepared for the lack of concern for the problems this hotel and Priceline created for us. We arrived with "guaranteed late check-in" at this hotel at 11:35 p.m. on Saturday night 8-16-08 after our flight had been delayed due to weather. We had paid in advance for 3 rooms for 4 nights at this hotel through Priceline. When we arrived we were greeted by a man aggressively begging for money. (My wife and I were taking our 4 children to NY for vacation and had been assured this was a safe hotel.) The front sliding doors were locked when we arrived. After we were allowed in we were informed the hotel was overbooked and one of our rooms was sold to another party. They told us two of us would be located to another area of Brooklyn to a comparable hotel that was 15 minutes away. The other hotel was not a national chain and they couldn't provide any info about the hotel other than they assured us it was a "nice place". It should be noted as we entered the hotel there was a man at the desk demanding the police be called but we didn't get involved in that problem. Also scantilly clad women were entering and leaving the hotel with several different men as we were trying to work with the hotel staff and Priceline on the problem. All of this was transpiring as our children sat wide-eyed on the small couch in the lobby. We were informed the hotel had no other option for us so we requested all of us be relocated so we wouldn't be separated. This was denied so we contacted Priceline. They blamed the hotel and said they would refund the money for one night for one room and would do nothing else. A woman named Daphne (who refused to give her last name) stated we would have to work out the problem with the hotel ourselves and the hotel said we'd have to work out the problem with Priceline. At 2 a.m. two of us got into a cab and were sent to the other hotel which was 5 miles away. The cab driver was given the wrong address for the other hotel and couldn't find it. At one point the driver stopped and asked a policeman for directions but he hadn't heard of the other hotel. Finally I had to call the Comfort Inn and request they look up the address in the phonebook and the address was completely different than the one they had given the cab driver. At 2:30 a.m. we arrived at the room in the other hotel and I won't go into the experience at the other hotel other than to explain they provided a breakfast buffet that included pickled fish and onion/cucumber salad. My 20 y.o. son and I looked at this as a multicultural experience. Unfortunately my 13 y.o. who stayed back at the Comfort Inn was quite traumatized by the ordeal and was certain she was seeing her brother and father for the last time as we climbed into the cab. Upon our return to the Comfort Inn approximately 6 hours later we were told our rooms for the next night hadn't been decided so we put all of the family's bags in the one room they did say was assigned to us for the rest of the stay. This hotel is not a short walk to the subway as other reviews indicate. It is also located by a housing project where an 87 y.o. woman was attacked and robbed. We saw this on the news while staying at this hotel! We have learned several lessons from this trip and hope this review can prevent similar problems from occurring with other travelers.

“terrible place to stay!!!!”

We just returned from a trip to New York City and had a good time in the city {yankees game, bronx zoo} but the hotel was a big disappointment ! The young man @ the desk was not at all friendly.I asked to talk to the manger of the hotel and she would only speak to me over the front desk phone.I said it would be better to speak face to face and she said she could not come to the lobby.I feel as a paying customer she should but the needs of the customers frist !They state onsite parking ,but we were told at check-in no parking available. The woman who set out the food in the am never wore gloves[gross] We called the front desk for a extra pillow and waited 1hour and still no pillow so we called again and was told VERY rudely it was coming ,but we never got it.
This hotel is not located near any subways. It is about 4 blocks away and not in the best part of town,we were very cocerned about walking with our 3 kids after dark.We will never stay here again and would not recommend it to anyone.
