We stayed two nights at the Growley Bear during an August 2005 visit to Gustavus Alaska. The Growley Bear, which feels more like a lodge than a bed and breakfast, was roomy and comfortable. Gustavus is a rather remote destination, so higher prices were expected, but the Growley Bear was a good value, running about $150 per night for three (including breakfast). It was recently updated and the room was spotless. We also enjoyed the large hot-cooked breakfasts, which included fresh homemade pastries and fresh fruit (which is difficult to find in Alaska- apart from blueberries). The Growley Bear appears to have been overlooked by guidebooks, but it is a hidden gem.
