My husband and I waited 5 years to take a vacation because wanted it to be special and we wanted to go to Alaska. We spent half of our trip at Katmai Lodge watching the bears and the other half in Gustavus/Glacier Bay. Following is an excerpt from a letter went sent to Bear Track Inn after our stay:

"What you all did to make sure we had the trip of a lifetime was very special to us and we wanted to tell you thank you - which seems like such an insufficient way to express our appreciation for your generosity with your time and thoughtfulness before we arrived and while we stayed with you. It is difficult to explain to people what a special place you have and how well you take care of the lodge and the people that come to visit, but we do try! As far as the food - it would have been an extraordinary trip even if we just had burgers and hot dogs for three meals a day much less the gourmet, splendid, and amazing efforts you went to for each meal.

I am sure you have heard reams of superlatives about how splendid your lodge is, how stunning the food is, how it is the ideal location for some many activities, and how there is a aura of peacefulness that surrounds the lodge and the people that live and work in Gustavus but we want to add our voices to theirs. From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you and hope we can return again soon!"

My husband and I have, along with 2 other couples, have just returned from Bear Track Inn in Gustavus, Alaska. This was the 3rd time that 2 oaf the 3 couples have stayed there and from my husband's and my point of view, it just keeps getting better. I can't say enough good things about the people at Beat Track who go out of their way to see that all your wants and needs are taken care of. The food is fabulous, along with the rooms that are immaculate and of course, nothing can beat the scenery. This goes for on land and on the water. We intend to keep going back as long as they will have us!

It is not the building that makes the stay memorable, it is the people. The building and atmosphere were awesome, but the staff was exceptionable.
This was our second time visiting Bear Track Inn and if possible we will come back again and again.
The accomodations we had were well suited to someone in a "wheelchair" and the staff made extra effort to assist us to the dock for fishing and anything else we wanted to do.
The food was "excellent" and the staff made you feel extremly welcome almost like family.

For the price it was ok.

The website claims rooms (very large!) at 270 square feet. Ladies and gentlemen - that's small considering a cruise line's room is 180 square feet and an average hotel room is 350 square feet. The room design is homey though and functional. Too bad there were no balconies.

I found the food fine especially the caribou medallions. I did not like the dining room layout of large tables (like family style). With those prices I preferred a quite table for two not 20.

Staff at front desk seemed suspicious of guests. Coffee was Denny's quality at that time.

The house dogs were the best part of the trip. They accompanied us fishing as our bear watch-out.

My advice is to bring your own wine, coffee and cream (and snacks). Bring some good books too.

The Bear Track Inn goes above and beyond all expectations of how a true Inn should be run. Everything from the moment you get picked up from the ferry, or plane, to the time you leave is truely memorable. The food is another story. Everything is homemade and delicious. The Chef's Frank and Juan make everything to oder in front of you. The pastry chef Roberta makes the best scones and muffins. Even if you are not hungry, grab a few.
The rooms are new and inviting. The beds have down comforters and the bathrooms have fluffy towels and robes.

Great experience. Great Inn. Like the Ritz in Alaska.
No need to stay anywhere else.
