We went on Chief Tsosie's company tour, our guide was a young Navajo who was very well travelled (he played a piece on flute entitled "Berlin" in tribute to the city)

The canyon was further away from the highway entrance than I expected, even by 4x4, must have taken about 10 minutes.

The canyon itself is beautiful, and I can see it's attraction for photographers. For non-photographers, well, our guide helped with camera settings etc. You can also just copy what serious photographers are pointing at! Taking into account both those things, I got some nice pics!

Bear in mind the cost of the tour does NOT include costs of the Navajo permit!

Just toured Antelope Canyon. Went with Navajo Tours inside the gate. No resevation needed. Had an excellent tour with Dalvin. He played the flute for us and told of old Navajo stories. I felt like I was treated excellent. Would highly recommend this tour with any of the local operators. Many people touring this site, but it is no wonder why once you experience it!!

Our visit to Antelope Canyon was the one disappointment of our holiday. Not knowing what time we would be able to make it to Page (as we were en route from the North to South Rim of the Grand Canyon) we decided to take the advice of some of the TripAdvisor reviews and make our own way to Antelope Canyon and pick up a tour from the parking lot at the canyon itself.

It cost $6 to enter the parking lot and a further $22 each for a ride on an open truck to the actual canyon . On the plus side we didn't have to wait too long for a ride and the canyon itself is beautiful. However, our “guide” barely spoke. At first we did think we were going to get a tour as she pointed out two good spots to take a photo, but then she simply sat down and left us to it. The other 5 people who had travelled out with us in fact gave up before we did and took a different truck back. We did walk the entire length of the canyon (about 30m) but then with no more guidance or input from our “guide” we too gave up. The whole experience lasted about 30 minutes which included a 5-10 minute drive each way to the canyon from the parking lot.

All in all we felt ripped off. It sounds as if taking a proper tour starting from Page is the best way to experience Antelope Canyon.

The canyon is amazing. I was very pleased that the two of us did it on our own and didn't get a tour guide. The guided tours take you to the Upper Canyon, we went to the Lower Canyon. It is much less crowded and we were able to go at our own pace. There is a $6.00 per person fee for the Navajo Nation and I'm pretty sure we got scammed by a guy charging an additional $20/person at the entrance. He claimed it was an entrance fee, but we wrote the check to "Ken's Tours". If I had it to do over I would have just paid the $6. Still, the experience was incredible and I would recommend it to anyone.

A tour from local shops can be booked to see the Antelope Slot Canyon, with Navaho guides as it is on Navaho lands, via Jeep. It’s a very narrow slit in sandstone cliffs with spectacular spiralling walls bored out by flash floods, and where part of the film, Broken Arrow was filmed with John Travolta and Christian Slater, but it can be quite dusty if the wind is blowing. It has also been used for TV advertisements.
