“Like coming home”

The Shoreline

We found the Shoreline on our first trip to Grand Marais in 1990. There's no pool, no fitness center, no in-room spa -- but in nearly annual trips since then, we have never considered staying anywhere else. As their web page says, the Shoreline is "like coming home".

Immaculate and cozy, the Shoreline has the best location in town. One can walk to the harbor, restaurants and, most importantly, to Artist's Pointe in minutes. I can sit for hours on the deck overlooking the east bay drinking in the sun, the sound of the waves and the view of the lake.

Our family (including 2 young children) stayed at the Shoreline the last 4 years for 3-4 nights per visit. We were there in July/August when the weather is great and even during this "busy" season the hotel and the city were very laid-back and relaxing. We find the hotel comfortable and very convenient to walk to everything in Grand Marais. We especially enjoyed our morning strolls out to Artist's Point and the Lighthouse. The rooms are fairly small but clean, ask for a second level room facing the lake - these are by far the best rooms. The ones facing the parking lot on the first level are not recommended. The owners are friendly and helpful. There is a great deck behind the hotel facing Lake Superior where you can have morning coffee or just relax. The only downside is the small bathrooms with very little counter space. The decor could use some updating, but overall we find this a wonderful, relaxing family spot.
