on 2-29-08 thru 3-2-08 my wife and i had the pleasure of staying at the hampton inn in gatlinburg tennesssee. living about 40 miles away i seldom go to the mountain anymore-it is just to crowded , but this time my wife had saw a special for a $99 a night which featured a fireplace and a jacuzzi in the room, i booked this on the hotels website i chose a non-smoking room, the amazing thing to me is in this day and time when we know that 2nd hand smoke kills that any hotel would now offer a smoking room especially in tennessee which became a smoke-free restaurant state in october , but please read on.while i booked a non-smoking room when i printed out my reservation ,it stated it was a smoking room, i then called the 800 number and told them i had booked a non-smoking but got a smoking they told me i had to call the hotel direct. i called the hotel to be told no problem so i was relieved to know i was in a non-smoking room.
on friday when we arrived the check in went smooth the gentleman was very friendly, i saw they still had smoking in our reservation ,i told them we booked a non-smoking ,i was informed due to some cheerleader competetion they were sold out and no non-smoking rooms were available .what else could i do but take it?
you come to the mountain for the nice clean air ,not the odor of someone smoking a nasty cigarette and it just plain stinks,do you see bears smoking cigarettes?this is suppose to be a nature city not a smokers convention -hampton inn you need to correct this and make all rooms non-smoking .
the fact is the sheets and the room in general stunk of nicotine it was gross, now lets talk about the jacuzzi , seems the hampton inn states jacuzzi and fireplace, i love the fireplace but the jacuzzi is a bath tub with jets nothing more ,and the worst of it all was there is doors from the room to the jacuzzi- so you have no privacy in the bathroom !!!!
the good things free breakfast -not a lot of good food, very dark bananas. old dry cereal, bagels and doughnuts -but it is free, and you are in walking distance of several resturants and the tram which is pretty cool and high- ,in knoxville i have heard of calhouns in gatlinburg it was not good ,as for bubba gump it is fair only compared to the charleston store, avoid the pancake house across the street it is bad!!!!
not a bad deal but could be a whole lot better ,and i guess that why they call them the smoky mountains because so many folks are pollution our air with their nasty cigarettes.COME ON HAMPTON STEP UP TO THE PLATE AND MAKE THIS A NON-SMOKING HOTEL!!!
