We rented a penthouse condo at Chateau on New Years Eve weekend 2001/02. It was beautiful, especially the view from the living & MBR, or the large patio - the view is the reason for my "above average" rating. It was very cold inside the condo at night (temps outside were only about 8 degrees though, and there is a LOT of glass - which allows enjoyment of the view but doesn't insulate much, still wouldn't be a reason not to stay again.) Worse, as we were preparing to leave we removed pillowcases to then find that the pillows were all filthy! I told the rental agent when I turned in the keys, but didn't get much if any response.... the condo is owned by an individual, who must improve their profit margin by failing to spend much on the unit? We paid approximately 325.00 per night, as I recall, and I really think an owner who wants repeated business would be smart enough to maintain the condo in a better manner. We will stay at the Chateau again, but rent through a different agent and be sure to specify that we expect to have proper (CLEAN) pillows and adequate cooking/dining utensils - and I'll check as soon as we arrive instead of discovering nasty pillows only after we've slept on them for 3 nights! The location is terrific for both the view and the easy walk downtown. I certainly encourage anyone who is going to vacation in Gatlinburg not to stay where you'll have to drive - and look for hard to find parking (that costs $$) plus have lots of traffic to contend with just to get dinner. The trolley is good, but I don't like using it for every trip I want to make to shop, etc., so I advise people to stay in a location where walking is as easy as it is at Chateau Condo's. (Be advised, too, that a stretch limo isn't able to drive all the way into the Chateau's steep parking lot, so wedding parties will have to walk from/to Baskins Creek road.) Hope my (lengthy) rating was helpful. Dianne
