As a business owner I hate to leave negative feedback, however I believe that this review is warranted as I hope no one has a similar experience. We stayed in cabin 529- Sugar & Spice.

We arrived at the resort, the staff was friendly and accomodating. After a 9 hour drive I was ready for some much needed R&R as this was our first weekend getaway in years. When we arrived to our cabin I was excited by the charm and the promise of a great getaway. Once I walked in the door, the charm started to wane. The furniture was placed in awkward positions, the decorating was random and looked like it was purchased second hand. I could look past this, everyone has different tastes I suppose. Then I noticed the floor, stained and ripped in several places. It gave me a sense of a frat house. Not really what I expected from the online brochure. So I moved on to the bedroon hoping it would get better.. wrong. The king size bed was lumpy and looked to be extremely used. The furniture again was horrible, and not in keeping with the expectations. The bedding was ridiculous. The mattress cover was a queen size and was turned so that it would lay on top of the mattress. the fitted corners did not allow it to lay flat so it was lumpy and creases under the sheets. The sheets were scratchy and thin. There was only one bottom sheet, a top sheet and an extremely used quilt to cover the bed. The only extra blanket was one small quilted throw. The extra pillows had no cases. I tried to make the bed so that we could be comfortble only to notice hairs on the sheets. My husband looked at the pillows under the cases and there were stains everywhere. We were so grossed out we could not even think to sleep on the bed. We called to the front desk but there were no available units and not much recourse. All the area hotels were booked so we were stuck.
It was my husbands birthday (we were celebrating his birthday and mine from three days prior) and we ended up sleeping on the couch and loveseat on top of towels. I figured since it was his birthday I would allow him the "comfort" of having a couch. Of course we had no blankets to sleep with so I has to start the fireplace up every hour when it switched off to keep warm (It had an hour timer). After what seemed like an eternity, the sun rose and we were able to check out. Hotels.com took care of refunding our second night. The credited us for the 28 dollar fee the resort charged us for cleaning-- ?? I am still baffled by that one. We left, did some fun activities in Sevierville and decided to head north again. We tried to think of a nice place to stay along the way. We were a little "gun-shy" from the night before and just decided, there is no place like home.

So, if you are looking for a clean, comfortable, romantic getaway, find somewhere else in my opinion. If you don't mind dust, mold, and other people's hair, stay here. I guess if I would have know to bring my own bedding and disinfectent, I would have been ok with the place. I just thought since I was paying $330 for 2 nights, that I could leave my cleaning skills at home. The grounds and cabin exterior were very nice. I guess you just can't judge a book by its cover.

“another good stay”

After a quick getaway with my husband, we decided we had to come back and decided to return over Thanksgiving with our daughter. We chose Heavenly View, a 2bdrm cabin and it was excellent. Everything worked properly and was clean, the view was awesome and we had a great time. The cabins in this area are pretty much right on top of each other, but for this vacation we didn't mind(wouldn't want that for a romantic getaway). Then, when we left, we discovered while we were on the road that something had been left in the cabin. The front desk was very helpful, and once it was located promised to ship it out COD. It took awhile to get it, be we finally got it, which is more than I can say for things that I have left in hotels in the past. I would definitely stay at Mountain Shadows again, but make sure you find out how close the other cabins are if that bothers you.

The cabin was great, hot tub fantastic. I left very happy until I got my credit card statement- they charged me $219 extra dollars a week after my stay. So I called to see what the confusion was about - they tell me it was for damages to 2 comforters in 2 different bedrooms. We left the place immaculate ---even made the beds, washed the towels and cleaned the dishes. They were were nasty and belligerant on the phone. And they kept yelling at me that "they think" it was bodily fluids, which is sooo untrue, disgusting and insulting. While we stayed the comforters were folded up by us and placed on the dressers because they had beads and scraty decorative material all over the top. They told me "i don't give a care" when I told them how upsetting this was to me. I believe this happened because we didn't have any cash on us when we were leaving to leave a tip for the housekeeper, a tip that I intended on mailing down to them when we got home because I had enjoyed my stay so much. So beware there housekeeper might retaliate against you. Also they seem to be less pleasant when they know that you live above the mason-dixon line. They lied to me about where the comforters were and I now have to fight with them through the credit card company.

My husband and I visited Gatlinburg for a long weekend January 13-16. We found Mountain Shadows on TripAdvisor and although it had very few reviews--they were all positive--we thought we'd give it a try. The cabin was immaculately clean, it had a beautiful view and perfect amenities--huge bathroom with a jacuzzi, washer/dryer, hottub on the deck overlooking the mountains, king-size bed and a full kitchen. Only four hours after arriving, we were already talking about when we could sneak away to this treasure again! We stayed in the "Tranquil Times" cabin and it was perfect for two. This cabin is not the touristy, chain type of place to stay and that's what we were looking for. We highly recommend Mountain Shadows and look forward to returning one day for another taste of the Smoky Mountains.
