My husband and I live within a 5 hr drive from Gatlinburg and decided to spend a long weekend in January. We had never stayed at the Gillette, but it appeared neat from the curb. The first room we were assigned had a broken toilet. We were then moved into another room which was old, but okay... until...bedtime. I went to take a shower and the water was COLD. Alright maybe not freezing, but definitely not warm. I thought the hot water had all been used up by other lodgers, so I went on to bed thinking I would get up early ( 5:30 AM) and get a nice warm shower then. WRONG!!! The water was even colder. I went down to the desk to ask what was wrong and was informed that Tennessee has a law that restricts the temperature of water in lodging places to avoid scalds. They really should come up with a more original excuse. I have stayed in many different hotels in this area and have always had hot water. I was never scaled or never got frost bite either. Anyway, the desk did not apologize or offer any rebate or anything. We left and will never darken their door again.
