We spent 5 nights here in June with our two children. We tried to book a couple of other hotels first based on the reviews on Trip Advisor but they were all full. We were unsure about the hotel given some of the reviews on this site. Our concerns were completely unfounded. Adi Assri, like the other hotels on the beach were very full when we first arrived so we ended up all in one beautiful 'Super Deluxe Sea View' room with a small double mattress on the floor. On the second day we asked about moving to two smaller rooms but after discussing with the very helpful front desk decided on adding another mattress in the Super Deluxe room. This was cheaper than having two rooms and we likes the brightness of the room (also the size - king size bed, 1 single mattress, 1 small double mattress all fit with extra floor space available). The open air bathroom had a bathtub and shower and good drainage.
The breakfast was good with eggs cooked on demand. It is worth going to the bar on your way in or out of breakfast to get the Illy espresso. They have two restaurants (both open air) but we seemed to be able to order off of all the menus not matter which restaurant site you went to. There were several menus and offered lots of choice, particularly for (picky) kids. The drinks menu is a bit pricer than stand alone restaurants or bars in the area (we did not eat at other hotel restaurants).
The hotel site is beautiful with a good mix of open space and lovely trees and flowering plants. There are two pools, one of which has a wading pool suitable for younger kids. We had massages at the onsite spa for about USD 15 for an hour which we found good. The hotel is at the end of the beach strip so if you want to go to the man made reef (worth a look if you are interested in the science of such a construction or not adventurous enough to go to the reefs further off shore) it is a 5-10 minute walk down the beach. During high tide you might have to walk a bit through the water and duck under or jump over ropes that tie fishing boats to the shore. The kids loved this and added to the authenticity of the place.
The onsite dive centre - Sea Rovers is fantastic. We took three snorkelling trips with them. Two separate trips to reefs and a 6 hour trip to Menjangan Island. I would highly recommend this company as we found them professional, knowledgeable, and very friendly. We also rented from another dive site when we looked at the man made reef however we found the equipment better at Sea Rovers and the service certainly better. When we went to Menjangan Island we had several kids on the trip. The team took great care to ensure they were safe whilst parents were distracted by the beautiful sites underwater.
Alas I had to work whilst we were here so I needed internet connect. It is available free on the lobby computers but costs about USD 5 for 5 hours if you want to use it in your room, by the pool etc.
I really liked the laid back, relaxed atmosphere here as well as the added little touches like flowers on the bed, the lighting of mosquito coils on our front porch each evening and the friendliness of the staff. Would definitely recommend Adi Assri.
