We both looked forward to Brennan's breakfast - how bad is this place?. The good point - the banana's foster was nice.
The bad points - I assume the surly receptionist's face would crack if she attempted a smile. At least fake politeness would have been nice. Our wait staff weren't much better We went for the prix fixe (thats french for 'rip off' - $50 each for 3 courses as we had soup and the bananas fosters - an extra $14 to the $36 charge). We ordered drinks but these didn't arrive - my wife had to request decaf coffee 3 times. I was given a coffee despite not having ordered it - lukewarm and completely cold by the time I finished. My wife detected detergent in my gumbo soup - wouldn't be at all surprised given the shoddiness of the place. Soup was again lukewarm and forgettable. We were then interrupted by another waiter shouting about making his child support payments to guests at another table - very classy. Next up were the eggs houssard. Desperate. This is a 'Holland Rusk' - toasted roll halved with 'Canadian bacon' (some processed junk) and a cheap egg smothered in sickly hollandaise sauce, complete with an undercooked tomato half with cheese. Coming from London, Engalnd its actually difficult to find somewhere this expensive for breakfast, but if you do you'd expect specially sourced bacon from independent (organic) farms and good quality eggs. I've eaten better breakfasts at Denny's or the IHOP.
As I mentioned the bananas foster was good, but not nearly enough to make up for everything else. I noticed by the mostly grim looking tourists (I would guess 90% plus were fellow travellers) that our experience was not unique. Save yourself the money (our bill was $140) and head anywhere but here. If you really have to go, simply order the banana's fosters and get out.
I should say we visited Brennan's Steakhouse and Commander's Palace (also a Brennan's restaurant) and these were both wonderful. However after this miserable meal we vowed not to give the Brennan clan our custom again.
