We found the St. Charles Hilton to be very convenient for a quick first trip to NOLA. We used our airline miles to book it, and liked the fact it is on the historic St. Charles streetcar line, which made it very convenient to get to the WWII Museum and the Garden District via the streetcar. The building is very charming, having the old elegance of a bygone era. The rooms were on the small side, but were well serviced by the housekeepers.
The front desk staff was excellent. When we needed to book tickets for a late show at Snug Harbor, the jazz venue on Frenchmen Street, the staff contacted the venue to arrange for our tickets while we toured, and even called our cell phone after the arrangements were made.
John Besh's LUKE Restaurant is in the building, which made it a no brainer for our first dinner. They have a few tables where you can see the chefs in the kitchen as they work, and when you make your reservation, you can request this.
Their happy hour special of 50 cent fresh oysters from 3 to 6 is worth it if you arrive early! We saved enough time to hit Preservation Hall after dinner.
