We had a very nice time at the Fairchild House. We rented 3 rooms for 2 nights over the 4th of July so we could spend the holiday with our sons and their wives. The inn keeper was delightful and extremely helpful to us. The houses are very old - pre civil war,and filled with lovely antiques. She is constantly working on them to keep them in shape There was some peeling paint and cracked ceilings, but my goodness, the houses are old and I would have expected that! They were filled with character and I loved it!
Breakfast was served in what used to be a stable house - on a lovely antique bar restored from a restaurant in the area. Biscuits, waffles, cereals, juices, jams, jellies, fresh fruit, delicious coffee or tea...a nice variety
It was a nice change for us to stay in the Garden District - we typically stay downtown or in the Quarter - we saw a different side of NOLA and enjoyed it very much - local eateries and night spots (Luckey's Lounge and Laundromat was really a fun place - people were GREAT!!!

“Loved the Fairchild!!!!!”

Fairchild House Bed and Breakfast

My friend and I stayed two nights at the Fairchild House this past weekend for the Essence Festival, and we loved it!! It reminded us both of our grandmother's houses growing up. We particuarly liked the porch. We both took pictures rocking in the rocking chairs. It was a very charming, quaint bed & breakfast. We were given keys to the front gate, doors to the house and doors to our room that made us feel quite secure knowing that only guests had those keys. There was a nice breakfast served each morning that consisted of very fresh fruits, bagels, croissants, cereals, fresh juices and milk. I'm sorry that I didn't get her name, but the lady in the dining room that served us was very nice and pleasant, always had a smile on her face. The room we stayed in was very cozy, romantic even if you come with your signifcant other. A huge four poster bed, nice antique furniture, hardwood floors, a small television to watch that got good reception, an A/C that blowed very cold air, and best of all, A PRIVATE BATHROOM!! Our maid, which I'm again sorry that I didnt get her name either was very nice and made sure we had fresh towels and that our room was cleaned. The Fairchild was in a great location, walking distance to the trolley system that we did take advantage of. I saw that someone put that it's next to a bad neighboorhood, but we saw no evidence of that, and we even walked back to the house at nighttime after it was dark. We also really enjoyed the wine, cheese and crackers that we were served the morning we left and were able to eat in the nice little courtyard. All in all, we had a very enjoyable stay at the Fairchild. I felt like I was at home and felt like we were given very personable attention. Thanks to BRAD, I believe his name was that checked us in and out. We had a lovely time and I would love to stay there again if I am ever in New Orleans again.

“Nice people, but room not what I expected.”

Fairchild House Bed and Breakfast

My husband and I were supposed to stay at Fairchild for three nights at the beginning of April, 2005. I had read all the previous reviews, and decided that the negative reviews were answered well by the owner, and I thought that we should give it a shot. Plus, the pictures of the house on the website were very nice, and the price was very reasonable.

Before we got to the house the owner called to ask when we were getting there, and I told her it would be about an hour or so. When we got to the house we were not offered wine and cheese, as was advertised. I thought that was strange, because she knew exactly when we were going to arrive. It was not an odd hour (about 5pm) and I had understood that the wine and cheese were OFFERED upon arrival. I believe that if you are going to have to ASK for wine and cheese upon arrival that it should not be advertised as complementary. I did not mention it at the time for three reasons: first, I am not comfortable imposing; second, I don't think you should have to complain about something that is supposed to be complementary to get it; and third, she seemed to be in a big hurry to get out of there. Man, I really did want that wine and cheese, too.

I want to preface the rest of my comments by saying that the staff was very understanding and really tried to help us when we alerted them to the problems, and the room did have a kitchenette and a private bathroom. I would agree with the previous commenter who said that if you are a young person on a budget, this is a great place to stay. I would compare it to some hostels I have stayed in. But if you have, as I do, issues with the cleanliness of permeable surfaces, this is not a place you will feel comfortable.

When we got to the room I was very disappointed. It was just as the previous commenter had described. The website pictures were "pure fiction." There were stains on the carpet, bedspread and walls. The furniture was in very bad condition. The decor was strange - not "casual Victorian" as advertised. We had no bath towels. When we pulled the bedsheets down there were stains on them.

We called the owner about the lack of towels and the stained bedsheets. Within a couple of hours the sheets were replaced and we had bath towels. But the new sheets also had stains on them. We were assured that they were sanitary, but I was just not comfortable staying there.

We left that evening to stay elsewhere, and the owner graciously allowed us to leave without paying a penalty. She did not have to do that, and we really appreciated it.

I am writing this because I think people should know what they are going to get. I'm sure the other posters here that enjoyed their stays are sincere. I can see many people having a very nice time here if you're not a clean freak. I thought I had to write because other posters had mentioned how clean the place was. I just didn't feel that way.

Stayed at the Fairchild house for 2 nights and found it to be delightful. The room was clean, the bed comfortable and the company outstanding! I was there for a special event and it was absolutely delightful. If you are planning a small wedding or party (i believe there were approximately 40 people in attendance) i highly reccomend the Fairchild House. They definately know how to throw a party! Cheers to Beatriz and her staff. They made the stay an absolute pleasure

“Clean, charming, great staff.”

Fairchild House Bed and Breakfast

23 Nov 2004

The staff is definitely the best asset. We found them to be most helpful. David was very knowledgable about the area. Rose was ready with breakfast, and always pleasent. Although some updates could be made.(We had a lumpy mattress)
I would stay again, it was convenient to the trolly line, to the interstate, and several restaurants.
Clean and cozy.
