I have traveled the world for the last 20+ years, I have never experienced a greater "hotel horror story" than the Lamothe House. I have stayed in guest houses, B&Bs, hotels and resorts.
From the moment we walked in the front door, we knew we were in trouble. The hallway was poorly lit, the sofa was frumpy and stained, the floors were in dire need of cleaning.
As we walked up the stairs to the reception area, it became clear that the carpet had not been cleaned in months. The check-in desk was in disarray and we immediately noticed a dingy and musty odor.
It only got worse when we got to our "suite". There were what looked to be rat droppings on the floor, the room was also dark and dingy and smelled even mustier then the reception area. The walls need painting. Lighting is poor. The beds caved in the middle. The furnishings may be antiques, but they are poorly cared for. The bathroom was also disappointing with outdated fixtures. There were absolutely no redeeming qualities. We looked at a second suite. It was as bad as the first. We were deflated.
Needless to say, there is no way we could stay there. We returned our keys to the receptionist (who was very nice and understanding...we believe this was not the first time she's had to deal with this) and checked-out within 15 minutes of arriving.
Management refused to give us our first night back, but staying in such filth was simply not an option. We spent the next four hours trying to find a hotel and lucked out with a very nice option.
Please DO NOT make the huge mistake we did. The Lamothe House claims to be "three star". During college, I stayed in Motel 6's that are palaces compared to this dump. As a former employee of a major hotel company, I also have a good handle on what the "stars" system means in terms of quality, service, etc. Giving the Lamothe House even one star would be overly generous.
