i just returned from a two night stay in the Windsor Court. I echo many of the comments of other reviewers. I had stayed here a number of times in the 90's and it was a fabulous hotel. This is the first time I've been back since 2000. The rooms are still huge, the common areas are still elegant, but it's all very dated and in need of a refresh. The common areas smell moldy. The TV's are old tube TV's that just don't fit in with a luxury hotel. The shower was mildewed, and when you took a shower, even with the bathroom door closed, there was a draft that caused the thin shower liner to constantly blow toward your body and stick to your wet skin--not a pleasant bathing experience! When I asked about wireless internet they said it was broken, but that i could use complimentary wired access in the room. Unfortunately, despite a number of calls, i could never get the internet access to work. The deadbolt lock on my room door didn't work, and as a female travelling alone that made me very uncomfortable. I asked them to fix it--it never got fixed. I requested a USA Today in the morning instead of the Times Picayune--they continued to deliver the TP. All of these issues are fairly minor, but not what you expect in a luxury hotel.
The staff was extremely friendly and the food was good. I hope they spend some money to update the property, because this was once a great hotel and deserves to be again. In the meantime i have to give it 3 stars. I can't compare it with other New Orleans hotels, b/c this is my first trip post-Katrina.
As far as restaurants go, skip Galatoire and definitely go to August across the street from the hotel. Mothers is around the corner and is a great new orleans diner.
